absolute crap day today for me, i work at stockport do and as most of you probably know our mail centre has just come back after 3 days out strike,had 8 dib packets and was waiting 30 mins for 2nd pouch to turn up so didnt get back to work till 30 mins after official finishing time, my day off tomorrow so will be booking pro del friday.

Really heavy today lots of MS3 plus the usual management balls up. My DUM wouldn't give anyone relief because he didn't have anyone to do it (I didn't ask because I didn't need it).

Summer is definately over............not been that busy for weeks, gonna need to knock the wall down in Callers to fit everything in! Managers still think its a one person job

Let me tell you about my day, we are a D.O in sunny Devon (very sunny very hot) We are also one on the D.Os that already start 2 hours later (4am to 6am) so my delivery does not start till about 8.30-9.00am

This is more of a warning....dont make or agree to the later starts

My walk is about 600 calls on one side of what feels like a small mountain, which the main road is located at the bottom so every street you compleat you have to walk down the hill then up the next one
By about 10.30 i have already drunk about 2 ltrs of water (which i have to carry) i can refill my bottle at the local school
At midday not only is it at its hottest my nice light blue shirt is now a sweaty dark blue and by now i really need a pee
By about 13.30 not only is my ass dragging behind me but i have run out of water & burst my bladder
1415 ahhhhh finished now for a nice 1 mile walk back to my D.O

WHEN PLANNING THESE LATER STARTS THINK ABOUT IT
1. Will carrying this extra water/fluids be taken into consideration when weighing bags.....NO
2. Will you be provided with suncream.....NO
3. Will you want to do another part of a walk onO/T......NO
4. Will you be home in time to pick the kids up from school......NO
5. Will you be able to continue with your 2nd P/T job to make up your crap RM wages.....NO
6 Will your manager still be there when you get back.....NO

Our office voted on later start times as we were mislead into beleiving all other offices were doing the same
This is the biggest mistake we ever agreed to

we've had weeks of managers telling us that later starts WILL happen come this monday, without a single vote being taken by the workforce, even though it's a local decision to do it now. even when we had the brief about the starts being implemented by the 8th October, the answer to the question of "so does that mean the late starts are canceled next week?" was "no, it's still on. definitely".

less than an hour later the union rep had called everyone onto the floor, a unanimous decision was taken to reject the later starts next week and a couple of very red faced line managers were conspicuously quiet for the rest of the day.

on the happy bus out to start delivery though there was a couple of the boys already talking about jacking the job in when the later starts come in. we were promised that the management would be looking at the possibility of securing an earlier finish on saturdays but, as yet, nothing has happened and there is "no obligation on our part to give you an earlier finish on a saturday" according to one manager. a few of the boys either play football, or have ponied up a lot of cash for season tickets and aren't too keen on giving up either to work for a company that simply couldn't give a toss about it's employees having any kind of social life. but then, guys packing it in are exactly what they want. there's another 140 hours to come out of the office (despite being repeatedly 150 hours over our "capacity plan" as it is. where this 140 hours is going to come from i do not know)

started 0430 not early but on time! 0600 MCM told us how bad our performance was yesterday and that if we were not preped by 0820 our pay would be stopped if we cut off our pay would be stopped if our driver didnt get our bags to us his pay would be stopped getting the drift!! needless to say this went down like a lead baloon. apart from that jolly fine day thanks

had a great day today. went in at 5.00. lino fetched me a cup of coffee over, took one look at my frame and said . god you've got loads there haven't you. ? tell you what. i've got some spare staff today so don't worry about going sorting just concentrate on getting your delivery ready. and if you want a bag off just give me a shout and it'll be sorted. anyway he came back over at 6.00 with a spare part timer and said get yourself off for a fag break . you've earned it . he'll throw a bit of mech in for you and he'll do a couple of bags for you. went out on delivery at 8.00 and had a really nice stroll round. having a chat with some old friends of mine who i hadn't had time to stand and talk to for ages. really pleasant day.


and the next thing was the bloody alarm clock was ringing it's b**s off and it was time to go to work . blowing a gale and pi****g down.
