I have done the same, no data lost, the PDA was locked up and not responding so it really was a last resort, it still shows route number and calls.

What did he think you should use?

What software is on them? Something commercial, or designed specially for RM?

Probably something not 15 years old. As for the software, it seems to be an off the shelf application that is adapted for RM.

Nearly threw the thing having to take the battery out and reset it , trying to keep the scanning bit dry.
What do they give us, 90 seconds for a recorded yer right
Taking the battery off and rebooting is a very big no no and I'm surprised you haven't lost data before now.
thats the best thing to do you wont lose data ive done it all the time

You have to press the button behind the battery with a pen or suchlike to lose the data! Just removing the battery does no harm just re-boots from start.
thats incorrect it can only be rebooted by pressing the button behind or the orange button on the front

There are 2 types of reboot, soft - when you push the button on the front for 30 seconds or removing the battery for 30 seconds and putting it back in which clears any bugs but retains all the data that is in it.

If the first doesn't work then you need to do the second otherwise you end up without a PDA until some engineer tells you to do exactly the same :nervous

I take a card out with me now, can't be arsed faffing around for 5 mins on someones doorstep if the thing decides it wants to freeze up. If it works it works, if it don't use the card. Biggest pile of shite going, even the other couriers that had these PDA's have upgraded. :cuppa
