Postman discovered days after death at his home

THE body of a father of one lay undiscovered in his Heathfield home for two days.

Police were called to the house of Mark Drobniewski, 55, by his teenage son, Alex, who had been trying desperately to contact him. But when they entered the Mutton Hill Lane property officers found the body of Mr Drobniewski at his computer with a cigarette in his hand.

An inquest at Eastbourne Coroner's Court was told he had probably been in the upstairs room for several days before police arrived on October 1.

His brother Francis told the court Mr Drobniewski, who had a gastric band fitted in 2002, was on a 'cocktail' of drugs battling with an on-going heart condition and underlying depression.

He said: "He had bouts of depression but he was turning a corner."

The court heard Mr Drobniewski was a postman but also had a burgeoning internet book business.

His brother said: "He was very active and was part of a Heathfield society that read newspapers for the blind every Tuesday and had a good circle of friends and neighbours. He spent every second weekend with his son Alex, who was there the weekend before he died."

Pathologist Jane Mercer told the court signs of decomposition indicated he had been left for at least two days.

She said: "It was most likely an arrhythmia but I can't rule out heart failure either."

Coroner Alan Craze recorded it was a cardiac death.

Speaking to the Courier outside the court, Francis Drobniewski said: "He will be missed by all. I'm not happy he died so young. But he died from natural causes.

"He was great fun. The last memory I have of my brother was seeing him at Lewes boat race. He was running up and down the bank with the boys throwing the bags of flour and water showing them how to do it."
