THE LONGEST-serving postman in Ormskirk has finally delivered his last letter after more than 40 years on the round.
Stephen Hill, 61, of Carroll Crescent, Ormskirk, first joined the Royal Mail in 1970 when he was just 20-years-old.
But now he is looking forward to lie-ins and a break from snarling dogs following his retirement last month.
Stephen said: “I applied for a desk job at BT but there were no vacancies and they asked if I fancied being a postman.

“I tried it for four months and eventually a job came up and it was more money but my dad told me I should aim to be happy in my job so I stuck with it.
“41 years later I have no regrets.”
Stephen has seen many changes in his four decades delivering the mail but is says he is ready to hang up his old post office cap.
“About seven years ago the Post Office changed dramatically when they decided they wanted to be a business rather than a service.
“Since then they have made so many changes that it stopped being a hobbie and became a job and I am not sorry to leave.”
Stephen has been delivering letters to the same round in Aughton for 25 years and many of the residents gave him cards and gifts in appreciation of his service and although he will miss doing the job he loves Stephen says he won’t miss the dogs or long bike rides.
“Over the years I have been bitten about dozen times and when I first started I was cycling 150 miles a week.”
Stephen has also had to cope with the rise in junk mail and a huge increase in houses built on his patch but says his customers have made it all worth it.
“I want to thank all my friends and the staff for their kindness,” he added.
