Former Blackburn postie wins race row case

A FORMER postman who was at the centre of a race row at an East Lancashire sorting office has won his unfair dismissal fight.

Abdul Musa told a Manchester employment tribunal that there was a ‘climate of fear’ at Blackburn’s Canterbury Street postal HQ.

Now after a five-year fight, a three-strong panel has ruled he was unfairly sacked by Royal Mail after highlighting racist barracking at the sorting office.

Mr Musa, from Burnley, has also been told that race relations complaints he made, as part of his claim during a five-day hearing in January, were ‘well founded’.

Mr Musa said he was ‘sent to Coventry’ after trying to raise legitimate concerns regarding racism in the workplace.

Giving evidence, he said details of his racism complaints were circulated around the centre, in breach of his confidentiality. Mr Musa insisted that Asian colleagues still talked to him and supported him.

He will find out his entitlements on May 8.

http://www.irr.org.uk/news/royal-mail-a ... -bullying/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; a brief description of the Jermaine Lee Case, and another for Mahmood Siddiqui. Seems like Royal Mail still don't have a working policy to tackle this particular cancer, even after 1 death and Mahmood Siddiqui being compensated to the tune of £178,542.

this is interesting because I remember reading about RM hiring this Senior Barrister from a prestige Liverpool firm to " deal " with this

if ? I remember rightly the Lady Barrister dealing with the case was a partner of the legal firm ....so Royal Mail send for the Light Brigade Cavalry ...usually it's Eversheds ...and they still lose ...never " bottomed " this one :Applause ...no sympathy as they've brought a lot of this on themselves ...badly handled from the start ...but that's what RM do ..

...I don't believe the case is a simple as that Asian guy would have people believe ...more six of one and half a dozen of the other but that's not to condone anything ......some Royal Mail " managers " make good recruiting sergeants for the likes of the EDL / BNP with this holier than thou 6th form politics PR spin b*llocks ...but total respect for someone having the courage to take on the Royal Mail system and winning .

The problem with #Royal Mail is that they spend too much time trying to protect their managers ....the infamous " magic carpet " ? ....in the Jermaine Lee case ...I think a Area Manager took #Royal Mail to tribunal for constructive dismissal ...that's a nightmare scenario for any firm be it private or public sector or nether one thing or the other ! ....a embittered or disgruntled manager who knows where the bodies are buried as it were .....can do a lot of damage ? :hmmmm ....We didn't hear anything so maybe Royal Mail's solicitors offered a settlement ....in the Blackburn case ...apparently ! a East Lancs manager had the record for sackings ...58 apparently
