A group of masked robbers have escaped with a "substantial" amount of cash from a post office.
The men threatened staff when they burst into Leicester Forest East post office shortly before closing time on Friday.
Releasing details of the incident yesterday, detectives appealed for anyone who saw the men in or around the shop, which is at the junction of Holmfield Avenue West and Hinckley Road, to get in touch.
Detective Sergeant Chris Baker, of the force's serious crime team, said: "This was a frightening experience for the postmaster and his staff right at the end of their working week and it is fortunate that none of them were hurt.
"We would like anyone in the area around the time, or people living in the area, to report anything that seemed suspicious or out of the ordinary.
"We know that the offenders used a dark Toyota Avensis car to get away and it is believed that shortly afterwards they swapped cars, getting into a silver Audi and a silver or grey Seat or Peugeot, in the Thorpe Astley area.
"If you did see something suspicious, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, we'd like to know as it may assist us."
Staff at the post office declined to comment yesterday.
Contact Det Sgt Baker on 0116 248 4850 or Detective Constable Luke Brooks on 0116 248 4845.
Information can also be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
