DOXEY residents left reeling by pub and club closures and dwindling facilities have launched a campaign to bring a post office back to the area.
Householders are encouraging people to sign a petition in a bid to get people power to convince post office bosses to give the go ahead.
The owners of Bradbury Rise Stores want to create a new sub-post office counter within the shop.
The store used to house Doxey’s previ- ous post office but it was closed by Post Office Ltd in 2004 - despite protest from residents.
Since then people wishing to post a par- cel or buy an airmail stamp have to travel into Stafford town centre.
Lilu Chundadadra, who runs Bradbury Rise Stores with her husband, said they had applied to install a post office but the application was turned down earlier this year.
She added: “We are not giving up. Most people are supportive and we have peti- tions here in the store for people to sign.”
Doxey Parish Council, the community association and Stafford Borough Coun- cillor Peter Goodland are also backing the campaign.
Councillor Goodland said: “I’m sure most people will agree a local post office is an essential service to many, both young and old alike.
“This is unquestionably a deserving venture worthy of all our support and drive.”
Doxey has lost a raft of facilities in recent years, with both its pubs and the Chinese takeaway shutting. The Universal Social Club is also facing the axe after being given notice by Redrow Homes to move out.
A Post Office spokeswomman said the matter was being investigated.

Hope the Doxey Arms is still open - one of my regular "under age" haunts back in the early 70s ...
