Equal rights, ok give women two weeks off paid maternity leave that men get instead of the six months they get now that should balance it up!
I'm struggling to imagine if anyone over the age of 10 could make such a stupid comment.
So Judgee I think your mummy is calling. It is time for your bath and don't forget to wash behind your ears.
Stupid? Why? No my mummy isn't calling but thank you for your grown up response it was enlightening and pretty much shows your level of debate. If you can't argue a point please don't stoop to pathetic insults it just makes you look ridiculous!

If this is the age of equality and you are a poor down trodden woman surely you think it's fair that men and women are given the same maternity leave. In this day and age many couples have both partners working shocking as that may seem to you. Yet men do not get six months maternity/paternity pay so how is this equal?

It seems you want equality when it suits you and casually forget it when it doesn't? :Boo hoo!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Bloody hell judgee, your name will be mud at the conference :chuckle Some people may think that I have no regard for women, which is strictly not true, I've been married to the same woman, a saint I might add, for 40 years on the 22nd of May. I have put a new kitchen in every two years and buy her a pair of shoes every 10 years - they don't wear out so much when she's barefoot. :Very Happy

I am all for equality DVB. It just annoys me that all these people demanding it don't want equality version 1.0 they want equality version 2.0 where they want what everyone else has and more!

I can see no reason that all issues raised by any 'minority' cannot be debated and discussed at the general CWU conference. We are all members and all pay our dues and all matters should be dealt with as such! :d'oh!

I told you why.
There isn't time.
There isn't even time to debate all of those raised now.
If you want to extend conference that's fine...but it will cost and with a full quota of delegates all on paid release,National Officers and various dubious hangers on it will cost big time....much more than a separate minority conference would cost.
Of course we could send those not interested home...but then that would just leave the minority.....on their own....having a conference. :left:

Of course it was about something else.
The phrase - yet another minority -said it all.
Add to it Judgees ignorant and frankly childish posts and we have good reason to be disappointed.

New paternity leave rules have come into effect meaning that parents will be legally entitled to share time off work during their baby's first year.

The move means parents could take six months off work each.

The government hopes to extend the measures with a fully flexible system of shared parental leave in 2015.

You might be right about RM - I happen to think not, but what about the other business that the CWU have representation in - the CWU is not a closed shop just for RM employees.
it represents members in over 100 companies. For example

Well thats not really a reason to say we have equality is it - in the 80s we had Thatcher as prime minster - not exactly a standard bearer for Womens rights and family values was she.

And Patricia Hewitt, a minister Tony Blair's Cabinet, told the BBC News website: "Margaret Thatcher broke through the glass ceiling in politics. But it is a tragedy that, having become the UK's first women prime minister, she did so much to undermine the position of women in society.

"Margaret Thatcher damaged women's place in the workplace, undermined families and communities, and did nothing for women in public life. It was a wasted opportunity on a gargantuan scale."

If it was fifty or more years ago I might accept the need for a Women's Conference but since the Equal pay Act of 1970 and the Sex Discrimination Act of 1975, both of which became law WITHOUT Women's Conferences, I am not convinced that they are a justifiable use of union funds, the brief account of motions last year confirming this view.

So...what is your solution?
Ignore minority issues or increase the expense of main conference?

Ensure the agenda of the main conference covers all relevant issues. :Very Happy

How. Who decides what's relevant - HQ on their own - or bodies set up to advise of specific matters (perhaps a pre-conference :whistle meeting for relevant members)

So you are not convinced that a separate conference(usually only lasting one day and involving a small number of delegates and officials) is a justifiable use of union funds but you are convinced that extending main conference(by at least a day and involving many more delegates and officials) is a justifiable use of union funds.
Or would you be happy to see more mainstream motions culled to make way for minority issues?
Now there would be a real bitching session if that were to happen.... :cuppa

I'm not familiar with the CWU organistion but would assume the National Executive Committee or an Agenda Committee set up by it, not HQ staff, would set the annual conference agenda and I would hope they would have the sense and judgement to include all relevant issues and that they would be challenged by delegates if they didn't.
A well run conference shouldn't need to be extended by a day to cover both mainstream and minority issues. :Very Happy

Pot, kettle, calling, black, the- please try and rearrange these words into an appropriate sentance while I go and ask my "mummy" if she will clean behind my ten year old ears! :d'oh!

Then feel free to carry on with your mature and "intelligent" arguement! :speak to the hand
