Cwu has accepted RM request to submit alternative proposals. These proposal are being finalised today and submitted to Royal Mail. At the same time CWU supposed to be announcing IA DATES to be anounced on Thursday?Friday. Cwu say that we will all have the letter outlining the CWU stance. Whoopee! We all wait again for CWU information. I now have to accept I do not live in the real world. Spin, delay, wait for it, and we the members get shafted again. Every organisation has a spin doctor (labour party), and I can only assume we have allan jonhson and keggie (historical superb leaders of our union??) giving us advice. The current leadership have had their day. Elected on Area/Regional preferences these guys do not reflect the overall membership of the union. In fact I would go as far as to say they are now relying on factional parts of union members to carry their agenda (what ever that is). Mainstream membership outside London & Liverpool can rest assured that the NEC will look after their interests (although I dont see Dave Ward doing anything for London) unless Londoners can tell me different.
Please give me something to hang onto in my struggle to justify my membership to the union.
I believe I might be better off subscribing to a legal fund, and to have representation from someone who knows the legel ramifications of agreements between 2 parties (RM & CWU). Hey lets all put our union subs into legal representation. At least when RM & CWU cant agree we wont have to rely on local representation (meaning that we have a rep putting our case but RM making their own CONSIDERED verdict).

Don't let them divide and conquor!!!!!
Please step back for a moment, and think about what will happen if large numbers of us leave the Union!
I know that there are problems with the way things are being done, and that RM are capitalising on it. But the answer is NOT to leave the Union, but to try to CHANGE it from the inside. After all, the less people there are, the less power we will have.
We get a chance to vote for our representatives on a regular basis, and if worst comes to worst, you can even demand a vote of no confidence. Which (if successful) will force an election.
Personally, I have good Reps where I work, particularly on my Shift. But it is blatantly obvious, that a lot of you have crap ones.
Above all, remember what :cfo and :lfo are trying to achieve here: they want to destroy the Union, so that they can deal with us on an Office by Office basis. Which will make it easier to change our pay and conditions for the worst. And ultimately decimate RM, so that it will be an attractive acquasition for one of our competitors.
DON'T LET THEM WIN!!!!!

You should step back for a moment and look at how we have been served by the Union and not just on this occasion.andy2007 wrote:Please step back for a moment, and think about what will happen if large numbers of us leave the Union!![]()

I think your final comment would be better served if it was aimed at the CWU HQ Andy.

What's the alternative?
I know exactly what you mean about the Union nationally, and as I said before, it looks like a lot of you have pretty poor reps. I've seen several posts by people who have been screwed over grevances, sick absences, etc.. But what is the alternative?
If there is a better Union out there, who would be willing to step in, then by all means, let them come in and give us the option of joining them. But unless there is, the CWU is our best bet.
In the proposals that RM have put forward, they are trying to bring in changes at local level, instead of nationaly. Without a National Union, we would be handing that to them on a platter.
We could of course, try to set up our own Union from scratch. But we would then have a battle to get recognised, before we could even start to address the problems that we are already having.
I have already tried (fruitlessly) to complain about the way the IA is being handled.
I even sent an Email direct to Dave Ward about it. I recommend that as many of you as possible try the same thing. After all, one person complaining directly to high ranking Reps can fobbed off. But once large numbers of us start doing the same, then they will have to accept that it is the majority, not a minority who are angry about the way they are handling the dispute.
After all, I've never before come across a Union who demands that their own members cross Picket Lines.
And even give out letters to Drivers giving them permission to do so. Someone should give them dictionaries, so they can look up the words UNION and SOLIDARITY!
I'm sorry if I offended anyone with my previous post. But as I said before: If things don't improve, replace the bad reps, don't shoot yourself in the foot by dumping our only decent weapon..... EACH OTHER!!!!

Re: What's the alternative?
My post was intended to direct the attention to those who are letting us down. We have stood together on the picket lines and we were having some effect when we split the days of action. I understand what you are saying about crossing the picket but in truth because of the way our shifts run it would be hard to set a start and finish time that encompasses everyone. In any case the single unified day had little effect it was only when we started the rolling days the build up began and I think we could exploit that even further.andy2007 wrote:I know exactly what you mean about the Union nationally, and as I said before, it looks like a lot of you have pretty poor reps. I understand the need for solidarity but we have to be aware of who we standing solidly behind and it is right we should question their motives, aspirations and ambition and see if they actually measures up to or even remotely resembles those of the membership.
