Postal increase will squeeze us, say small companies

Soaring postal prices will hit two-thirds of small and medium-sized businesses, according to research by software firm Sage.

Royal Mail is used by 85 per cent of these businesses with more than half posting invoices and letters every day.

With a first-class stamp rising from 46p to 60p and a second- class stamp from 36p to 50p tomorrow, 62 per cent of firms say it will hit their ability to compete.

Ten per cent predict a significant impact on business.

The increases mean that firms sending an average of five letters a day will pay £182 a year more.


Sage says the day after the price rise was announced, enquiries about creating electronic invoices, purchase orders and statements surged by 87 per cent.
