FORCED INTO SELLING A PRODUCT----HARD SELL.
I HAVE A MEMBER OF FAMILY WHO HAS DONE THIS.
Forcing people to sell or buy for that matter is not the answer, and does not make sound business sense. Customers who are sold products they neither want nor need become disgruntled, and every time they have a bad experience they will statistically tell 20 other people about that bad experience. Staff members who are forced to sell become disgruntled and unproductive in the long term. Education is the key, team members have to be told and then understand why we need to introduce the products at the counter, and ultimately sell those products. Customers will only find out what we sell if they are told. Advertising works to a degree, but a personal explanation from a counter clerk is a very strong persuader. All of our products can make the customer money, save them money, or give them peace of mind. Clearly not all of our products will suit everyone, but we do not have the right to choose for them.
If we all only did the things we liked to do at work, a large percentage of work would never be done, it all boils down to who decides what someone's job is. If you can't accept that the people who pay your wages have the right to tell you what your job is, then like as not you would be better served being self-employed, then you refuse to do what you tell yourself to do.

Exactly James, save money, make money or/and give peace of mind.
We can not sit there and play Judge over what customers we ''think'' will be right for speaking to. Unfortunately there are still too many people doing this and its clearly evident when you see area figures from some large branches. Some can't even match the performance of smaller ones with a much lower footfall.

Oh dear, you sound a little wound up, why don't you grab yourself a sweet sherry, stick your favourite Dusty Springfield CD on the player, and chill?
As I said before, that man you've waited all your life for, well , he might be just round the corner!

No news as yet, probably in the same boat as us Blue Shirts.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Nothing that I've heard of. Not long now until the period of calm is over. This week I think, then its back to square one.
The thing is at the end of the day they will start doing what they need to do anyway. Can't see them holding back with plans as there doesn't seem to be any give from the Union over what they want.
RM have started to roll out some of their plans already despite no agreement from the Union and I think we will follow suit.

You are way off the mark. Seriously.
Your statement is flawed.
People don't become Soldiers NOT to fire weapons.
There is no opt out option in what is now normal business practice in POL
If you are failing to do what is asked and within reason. Then yes, you will be given extra coaching and development then the downward spiral starts. You will then go on to a development plan and monitored with more coaching. If that still is no good for you then clearly you are not suited to the job.
At the end of the day, if its not for you, its not for you.
You compare our job with shooting fellow human beings: IMO it is you that is in the wrong job or maybe u wish u had the balls to join the armed services

No, that was an analogy. Two totally different things. But the point in being in each position is to do a certain job.
Have to agree with big james.....counter staff get paid for every focus product "signed up" by a customer. I wont say sold because we cannot sell over the counter. Our job is to just talk to our customer about the product, and if we do our job right they will look for a quote, and then hopefully a sale. In my branch, which is a london office we will be getting a bonus, and this quarter it will be double to last quarter......reason why? whe have got a new manager who encourages us to talk to customers and treats us likes humans and not robots. She has challenged those who were reluctant, but not in a heavy handed way, but a supportive way and has made it " a fun place to work".....and yes that is part of have your say. And you know the stupid thing here......some of my colleagues have done nothing to earn a bonus....but will get one.. and even after strike deductions ( and yes I went on strike too!!!!) will happily take the probably 50% coming to them.....thanks to their peers carrying them.....but our manager will not get a penny, despite turning this office around...is that fair? You tell me?? And a sensible answer would be welcome!
