Your right there Andy2007 at our MC you need to wear safety boots and HI VIZ etc
so that the platform/warehouse staff,drivers and managers pushing/pulling 2 yorks
at a time can see you and dont run into you

You're lucky. Some of our lot move 3 loaded Yorks at a time! Some people never learn do they?

I'm a postie of over 20 years and can remember having uniform inspections etc. I still wear my uniform as don't see the point of ruining my own clothes at work .I generally believe that If enougth people who work indoors { non customer facing etc } stop wearing the uniform, then a day will come when Royal Mail managment will stop issuing it ! { think about the money saved !} So please wear it. Your at work not on a night out in town.
This was a bad decision by RM. (Was made back in 2004). Everyone should be made to wear the uniform and those in customer facing roles should be told to wear the uniform correctly. Do you really think bank workers / train staff can mix and match what they wear, some posties look like tramps!

Your right about posties looking like tramps, some of them, but its also down to the impracticable "life" of the uniform as well - a hard physical job where you wear the shirt/blouse once a week then wash it - yet they only allow you 5 in a 2 year period. Mine don't even last a year before they start getting worn at the cuffs and collar, and they fade after only a month or so. The shoes are meant to last a year, yet the CATs wear down to the under-soles in about 3 or 4 months.
If Royal Mail wan't us to look good, they have to invest in harder wearing uniform, or recognise that the working life is reduced when physical labour is involved.

In mail Centres probably - On Customer Facing duties can't see it. A postie in their Uniform is a walking advertising board for Royal Mail and it would false economy to withdraw its compulsory use, and a very big gamble.
Still anything is possible in the current cost cutting frenzy.
