Concerns have been raised over a huge new distribution centre that could create up to 400 jobs in Chorley.

Royal Mail is set to create a 300,000 sq ft distribution centre on Buckshaw Village’s Revolution Park.

The ‘North West processing centre’ for postal arm Parcelforce Worldwide will be a hub of activity with two massive building housing 400 staff, over 300 parking spaces, and space for over 200 lorries.

The scheme is planned for land between Wolseley and Stewart Milne homes, which is owned by Evander Properties.

But concerns have been raised the warehouses could ‘overshadow’ nearby homes.

Coun Mark Perks, who represents Chorley North at Lancashire County Council, will speak against the plans when they are put before Chorley Council’s development control committee on Tuesday, April 24.

He said: “I am not against Royal Mail moving to Buckshaw but I am concerned over the impact warehousing will have on homes.

“It is the scale of the building next to these homes that is the concern.

“These are small, detached properties and need some protection, particularly from the sheer scale and size of the unit.

“I feel as a councillor for the area I have to say something because if I don’t the application will probably just go through without conditions.

“I think a distribution centre for Parcelforce and the possibility for 400 jobs is brilliant, and just what we need in Chorley, but it’s a very large piece of land and I would hope the applicant would just consider the nearby homes where people are currently living and where potentially people will be living.”

Neil Dickinson, director of Evander Properties, said: “The landscape officer at Chorley Council is satisfied with our landscape proposal. We are over 50m deep at one point with structured landscaping.

“The landscaping along the western boundary will be introduced at a very early stage and be subject to a maintenance regime.

“We have worked very closely with Chorley Council and our neighbours to ensure we exceed all standards.”
