Pram-pushing posties will soon be seen on Sheringham’s streets under a nationwide shake up of delivery routes.
As postal habits have changed - with people sending fewer letters but receiving more packages from online shopping - Royal Mail has “modernised” the way it makes deliveries, and is now equipping staff with trolleys to cope with heavier loads.
And to accommodate the trolleys workers are now taking on new routes, such as starting at the top of steep roads so they can finish with lighter loads at the bottom.
The revised routes came into effect on Monday, with more being introduced over the next few weeks. Royal Mail is now advising those in NR26 and NR11 postcode areas that they could see a change in delivery times as a result.
Spokesman Valerie Antoine said: “Some people might not notice anything, some people may get their mail slightly earlier and some people will get it slightly later because somebody has to be at the end of the round.”
She stressed the changes would not effect delivery days but it would take a while for posties to adjust to the altered rounds.
“It’s not a case of doing intermittent deliveries, it will still be a six-day week,” she added. “Obviously it’s going to take time to “bed in” and we may get some things wrong, which we’ll need to tweak. This is why we’re letting people know this is happening.”

F*ck me, what are we doing - parachuting them in?And to accommodate the trolleys workers are now taking on new routes, such as starting at the top of steep roads so they can finish with lighter loads at the bottom.
How does that work then, they push a nice heavy, fully laden, trolley up to the top of the hill so that they can finish at the bottom with an empty one?
