As there are no new build MCs planned then SOMC and DMC could not be closed. Also Dorset is classed as remote hence mail being flown in and out of there. Expect PO to go into SOMC.

Are you making a statement or asking a question?
CFCs aren't thirty years old, but around about twenty, but other than that the sentence above is hard to decipher. What's the connection between SCOTLAND MC's and SOMC?
Hubble bubble confuses "technology" with installed automation, and you just confuse yourself.
Still suck at trolling?
Yeah, anything you clearly don't understand must be trolling. That must be it.. I await your inevitable and probably meaningless reply.

The question is could SO MC handle taking over all the PO area?

@Tman: What machines any given MC has means nothing as any MC could have all it's machines removed in round 48-72 hrs.

Speaking of machines, anyone noticed how the CSS machines are not what I would call "permanent" installations, they connect to the mains by a 415V plug, if they were permanent then I would expect the mains feed to go direct to the machines and not via a plug.

Obviously not, as it would have happened by now. SO struggle with SO's mail without taking on more.

It means plenty. Removing them is easy, it's putting them in that's hard.
Machines don't just turn up, plugged in and work despite every operator thinking that's how easy it all is. Apart from the planning involved in the site, such as physically enough room, light, access, ventilation, floor loading etc, there's the technical aspects of recabling (both power and ethernet) which can be costly and involved, then there's the Ops side involvement, which includes, costs, savings, (manhours and increased efficiencies) run times, plans, additional ancillary equipment to be purchased, staff selection and training, etc etc.
All of which must be costed planned and purchased before any machines are even ordered. Hardly quick.

They plug into a power pole....seen how permanent that is?

PO 2nd class has been processed by SOMC for long enough now that it could be considered to be "thier own mail", but if SOMC don't struggle ( as you so often like to bleat in your misinformed way) then why are diversions from SOMC so common, and why do mech failures (especially IMPs 3&4) feature so often on SO daily reports?

If those SO admissions of Ops and mech failure aren't true, why are they logged as such? Seems like you just want to argue the toss, but you need to have some facts as back up rather than rely on childish insults if that's the way you want to go.

The IMP figures are poor compared to the past, but that is mainly the fault of management for pushing through the resign, and attaching sunday working to most of the mech duties. There used to be regular crews on those machines,on all the shifts, but a lot of good operators signed out the mech because of the sundays, managements loss. Many people on the mech are put on the machines from different areas, and not by choice.Hardly surprising the figures are crap now,if you have people with no interest running the machines?Do you really think they care if there are jams,or faults?

Tman do you have a list of MCs that do not process 2nd class and the MCs that the traffic goes to?
Eg York into Leeds

DMC has iLSMs and if you look at the list of offices that have those, none are being closed. Southampton could not be closed because of it's location and DMC is not big enough to take PO, SO and SP. My guess is that Southampton will take PO and if it can't handle the additioanl traffic then SP would go to DMC.
These South West offices must be next on the list for MC reviews.

Ahem.

CFC's are a lot older than 20 years old, since they have been in use for 25 years at least. Hell, the ones I have to operate are 10 years older than I am.

The sentence is a play on your scaremongering through stating (not just in this topic iirc) that poor mech figures leads to MC closure (not a contributing factor, you imply a direct correlation).

No MC in Scotland has any IMP's, therefore run CFC's (with exception to Inverness, and Lerwick mails get faced/cancelled up there), CFC's are ageing technology, and not gracefully by any standards, to the point where they are implementing mods to try and keep a supply of spares going for them. So by your assertions, you think all MC's in Scotland are going to be closed due to the fact that the automation is hopelessly out of date, even compared to IMPs?

No, it would be moronic to even entertain that thought, therefore your logic is flawed.

That is the connection. Doesn't take a genius engineer with qualifications out the wazoo to work it out.

If you can prove empirically that there is causation from poor mech figures, that leads to MC closures, then I will gladly eat my own words. Otherwise stop trolling.

Anyone heard anthing about a trial of iLSMs being used for doing the work of a CFC? If it's true then that could mean that IMPs and CFCs get removed all round

Our MC had CFCs installed in the first wave of the project, and that was in mid 1992.Allowing for the fact that ours weren't the first, then the oldest is probably 22 years old, approximately. Twenty five years "at least" is back into FCT and ALF eras, therefore you're wrong. No genius required, just knowlege.
As for the rest, spending three days with the Thesaurus trying to sound like your argument is somehow sound or reasoned was wasted, (especially after the previous shouted nonsensical post) and trying to extrapolate the point by using the Scottish MC's situation against what will likely happen in the English South Central region, is just lame.

Anything useful to add in reply, or will there be just another "trolling" accusation as a substitute for any real substance?

I will admit defeat on the CFC issue.

I wasn't trying to exx-traa-pol-eight any similarity between any MC and another. I was just pointing out how flawed your logic is, flashy words or not, since it is your go to response on anything rationalisation related.

Speaking of fancy words, people do know them. It's not like you need an english degree to know some of the more long winded ones, especially when you have them drummed into you at school.

It is also possible to make a point using a less than serious tone, which sometimes has a greater impact then approaching it completely dead pan. Which is what my shouting was, at least intended to be.

Troll. (come on it's almost a tradition now)
