I know this article is over four years old but I thought it would be neat to read on the 100th anniversary of the Titantic sinking. Two Royal Mail postmen (and three American ones) went down with the ship. More interestingly, they were last seen lugging bags full of letters up to the deck from the sorting room deep in the bowels of the boat.
Fun fact: They were expected to sort through 400,000 letters in about six days. So much for enjoying the cruise.

Wiki
Mail and cargo
Although Titanic was primarily a passenger liner, she also carried a substantial amount of cargo. Her designation as a Royal Mail Ship indicated that she carried mail under contract with the Royal Mail (and also for the United States Post Office Department). 26,800 cubic feet (760 m3) of space in her holds was allocated for the storage of letters, parcels and specie (bullion, coins and other valuables). The Sea Post Office on G Deck was manned by five postal clerks, three Americans and two Britons, who worked thirteen hours a day, seven days a week sorting up to 60,000 items daily.[54]

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Did RM put up a memorial for them? After watching a few programmes recently I noticed other staff on the liner had various memorials erected in their home towns.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

A century later and there would have been several tons of Door To Doors which no doubt would have made it sink quicker.

Not to mention the average weight of American men having increased to 190lbs in 2010 from 160lbs in 1960 and about 20lb difference for women. That makes a total of 83175lbs extra weight or 41 tonnesLounge Lizard wrote:A century later and there would have been several tons of Door To Doors which no doubt would have made it sink quicker.![]()
