Generally I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with you, other than those working in a machine environment it is not PPE only uniform. PPE would provide protection whereas RM footwear only passes basic anti-slip testing and nothing else; (It does not look at toe impact, midsole puncture, electrostatic/chemical resitance etc.). I'd go as far as to say that most 'sensible' footwear would also fulfill the same anti-slip testing and as such would be suitable for use in delivery environment.bandit650 wrote:All foot ware is under PPE (personal protective equipment)

Re: RM shoes
We have just been informed that it goes under PPE so the business has to supply,it may not comply with the general info that goes under the hat of PPE but if the firm say it does then it does,i am not going to argue if it means that the staff have to have what the business supply every 3 months and we all know that the shoe is rubbish but if you have an accident and your wearing their footwear then they can call it what they want!! but thank you for your clear and concise description.Himaggen wrote:Generally I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with you, other than those working in a machine environment it is not PPE only uniform. Re: RM shoes
i can confirm that royal mail footware is not ppe, except things like loading bay etc (steel toe caps)
that came from my meeting with the royal mail safety director
the way royal mail get around it is that if you do not wear the footware provided (except medical grounds) you will be in breach of the uniform standards if you have an accident and are not wearing royal mail footware

Re: RM shoes
Keith,
Thanks for your E Mail.
I have spoken this matter over with xxx xxxx and have also read through the accident investigation report relating to zzzzzz xxxx
The investigation report does highlight the fact that xxxxxxwas not wearing Royal Mail footwear at the time of his accident, but let me reassure you that no blame has been apportioned to him over this.
xxx xxxxx advises me that after checking with uniform stores it appears that xxxxxx has never been issued with Royal Mail footwear.
This matter should have been picked up at his induction and steps will be taken to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.
On the more general question of provision of personal protective equipment, let me explain the situation to you as I understand it
Royal Mail footwear for delivery OPG’s is not currently classified as “Personal Protective Equipment”. Royal Mail have been in discussion with the CWU for several years over this matter and discussions continue.
Even though Royal Mail footwear is not classified as “Personal Protective Equipment”, it doesn’t mean that sub standard footwear should be worn. My view is that Royal Mail footwear should be worn by all delivery OPG’s as part of our uniform standard. The only exception is when a delivery OPG is not able to wear Royal Mail footwear for medical reasons and is able to produce a GP’s letter as evidence.
Hope this explains matters.

Re: RM shoes
We have a poster up in our office showing worn down soles on the heels. It says that footwear in this condition isn't acceptable and to contact your manager to order a new pair. I think it's part of the WCM stuff so if the soles are in anyway worn down show them to your lino and they shouldn't have a problem ordering you some new ones. I seem to wear out a pair every 3 months never mind 2 years lol.

Re: RM shoes
The magnums have a tiny bit of small print in the box with them saying something like - Not to be worn in the wet until the soles have been scuffed by use. Completely unimportant but so insignificant I'd expect to be used by someone to cover themselves if anything should happen.
