They are working out an average pay rate for the time you have worked based on the shift rates applicable for each time period you work. For your pay to be accurate they should be providing a seperate line on your payslip for each shift rate you work.
You do have a right to know what the pay rates are for each shift and both Angard and Royal Mail should tell you if you ask - problem is knowing who to ask (the payroll messaging service, 0845 numbers, is useless and last week didnt have the new pay rates as a result of the pay increase of 1st April).
I have managed to get these details for my mail centre but had great difficulty obtaining the information.
