It depend on the boss really. Your colleague can tell you which direction to go as they know the management and system better.

your options are limited...you can either dig your heels in and pursue this matter through the union....or leave....obviously if you are in a high unemployment area then i can appreciate how difficult this might be...i wish you all the best. :neutral:

Line managers don't have the clout to sack you mate, it's a longer process than that. One of the things that doesn't seem to be getting much mention is your erratic duty times. I'm not sure what the wording is, but you can go through the union on account of the way it's causing you problems family wise ie. making it hard to impossible to sort your child. That would be my first step - get the duty times sorted. With regards to grievances, I know a lot say it's a waste of time, but it really does need to be down on record. Get one in, and he'll ease off; then it's up to you to be as regimented as possible during your shift. No rule breaking or cutting corners, because once that grievance is in, they'll try and trip you on anything.

If he's on a 20hr a week contract then how is he only given 15hrs a week,they have to pay him 20hrs regardless,surely?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

well the union rep is going to speak to the line manager tomorrow to try see what the problem is. I fear this is only going to make it worse though. what if they just decide to sack me for no reason? can they do that?

No but if you're asked to speak with the line manager or DOM 'ALWAYS' make sure you take in someone else to witness all that is said. If no one is at hand, make them wait.

never go in alone mate. you in the union so if you have no rep at your depot then im sure a administrator on here will get you in touch with a area one
