Question about mail sack colours and yorke sleeve colours.

Just a question about the different colours of mail sacks and the yorke sleeve colours and their actual use. I'm assuming that the different colours are intended to denote a use like the type of mail they should contain. I'm only asking because WCM is really starting to kick in here at the Mail centre/Delivery Office where I work, yet something as obvious as using the correct coloured stuff (if such a thing exists) for the correct work isn't happening in the slightest.

Bags that can be hung from a sorting frame:

Red: Collections?

Blue: Airmail?

Green: Registered/Specials?

Gray: Normal letters and packets?

Clear: ?

White: ?

Bags which cannot be hung from a sorting frame:

White: Seem to be used a lot for PPI and Meters

White with Royal Mail written on: Again seen them used for PPI and Meters

Yorke Sleeves:

Red: Normal packets I assume.

Green: Specials?

Yellow: No idea, Revenue Protection? Seen a lot of these with "Property of x mail centre" (always not ours) on the side.

Blue: Airmail?

Black: No idea. Always have "Property of x mail centre" on the side as well.

- I've heard that these are what the DSA mail arrives in and are just reused whereever.

Yeah I've seen a few white sacks that can be hung from the frames. Not very many tho, when I cleared my packets down one day last week they were in one

There's no colour code (at least nationwide) for sleeves

The one's with white powder are the one's the rats and bugs used to live in. Always wear gloves.

Odd that, I can see an obvious benefit from using colour coded sleeves. Ease of identifying what's what from the colour of the sleeve but then if you run out of a certain colour of sleeve its not going to work that well.

Ha ha ha sorry Caniel but getting any type of equipment is a task in itself never mind colour coded for each job. I am a 600 driver and have to supply various Dely offices and firms with a variety of equipment, bags come in all colours and I havent seen a full yorks of Red empty ones in about two years now. We just grab what we can and take them to the dely offices/firms. Sleeved Yorks are becoming increasingly sparse as more are used in the collection hubs as RM wont admit closing down all the MC's has worked so they outsource packet sorting to collection hubs now. Want empty yorks? not after Mondays you have no chance its first come first served, DSA take them all leaving us with scraps to service some of the biggest firms in the country. World Class Mail Centres? they cant even get the basics right.

That would be the reason why we're so short of yorks then, we don't even have enough to send back all the trays, 100's and 100's of them are stacked up waiting for empty yorks
