Will move this to the MC forum.

All the DSA that comes into my place don't come in perstops/trays. Everything comes in sacks then RM staff still have to cut and tip it. So much for dropping it off at the MC ready for delivery
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Royal Mail on both DSA and revenue protection has a risk strategy where they audit certain customers and the rest they take on the faith of the customer.

No how could Royal Mail count all the items which turn up on DSA lorries ! It would not be possible so a lots is taken on faith and audits are made on some ! Same as revenue protection spot checks are made on some customers mail but most are taken on face value !

From talking to some of the RP guys at the MC, they know the DSA firms are totally scamming us but there is very little they can do since they just don't have the staff to check the 100s of yorks which arrive every day.

If you don't have the staff to accurately audit a reasonable proportion of the DSA entering the system it will obviously be open to abuse.
What other companies do in similar circumstances is introduce disproportionally high penalties for abuse so that even if you are only caught out on the odd occasion it is still not worth your while.
This extra revenue is used directly to fund more auditing so that the system becomes self-financing and it's win/win.
In Royal Mail things are done a little differently. :whistle

Your missing the point no one can deny certain streams of mail are down . Stamp mail is down that is a no brainier. Packets are up and growing . Flats have increased over the years . However the amount of delivery duties have also decreased meaning postmen and women are more productive than ever.

Now the other clear issue is that Royal mail have lost revenue now that 50 % of the more productive mail is now done by competitors rather than Royal Mail who still have to provide the USO and quality targets for all DSA mails.

Therefore Royal Mail would have to employ about an extra few thousand people to count all DSA items on the hope that what the DSA provider has told them that they have in the lorry is a lie and that they have more which then would be chargable. That would be an expensive gamble and would also risk royal mail delaying that mail and then they would face having to pay the DSA customer compensation.

It would be ridiculous and pointless to attempt to count all DSA but the auditing has to be effective and the penalties have to be persuasive in order to deter abuse.
I don't think either are because this is a short-sighted company who would rather save a pound than recover a fiver.

This is just one example of the way RM are mucked about by the DSA operators.Lorries are meant to turn up in allocated timeslots, for example 10am-1200.In reality they can turn up much earlier,or even later, and will be unloaded-even though RM have the right to turn away the work for missing the slot.
They never do though, because if they turn it away, they just get twice as much the next day,so DSA cowboys continue to take the piss, and turn up whenever it suits them.If RM bosses grew a pair, and started clamping down, maybe we might start to get somewhere, but i doubt it.

Another thing, how many times have MC staff had to go without Yorks, while there are 100's chained up ready for the DSA boys to arrive(usually hours before they even turn up!),yet we can't set up a work area, and waste time on looking for the odd spare,or for some to turn up from the DO runs, total madness...................

Assuming the original figure was correct, Royal Mail just have to deduct 5% each year to take into account the fall in traffic.
How could anything go wrong?

Easy-peasy select x amount of boxes at random , count contents ,multiply by amounts of boxes/yorks, if discrepancy is greater than y % then dont deliver that shipment until has been properly counted by managers drafted in from gardening leave. :arrrghhh  :Very Happy

As a lot of the DSA companies employ ex RM staff , they obviously get info that could be beneficial :shhhhh

You mean to say that even counting yorks of mail is not being done , never mind the contents of said yorks :no no
There are lots of companies who take the same risk strategy ,for example a super market does not count every apple in a box they take it on faith. Equally if your in an office and have a 20 boxes of A4 paper delivered you do not count every packet to ensure you have 500 in every packet you take it on faith.
