A Swindon engineer will push himself to the limit across the Amazon in May.

Stephen Jordan (right) will complete a seven-day 146-mile run through the jungles of Peru with friend Kevin Horlock (left).

Extreme conditions
Stephen, a seasoned distance runner and squash player, says entering The Jungle Ultra event would be his toughest challenge.

Carrying all his supplies in his backpack Stephen, a technical central engineer at Swindon mail centre, will avoid snakes and spiders while crossing rivers and dense rainforest.

‘I’ve committed to running 146 miles in one of the world’s most challenging and naturally dangerous habitats,’ says Stephen. ‘The biggest problem will be the insects, the snakes, and spiders.

‘We’ll have to wait and see if I can do it.’

To prepare, Stephen has spent the past two years completing marathons and other endurance events.

‘Everything’s achievable’
Stephen entered The Jungle Ultra because he has always enjoyed testing his mental and physical limits.

‘If you get going and refuse to give up everything’s achievable,’ he says. ‘And the training takes you the rest of the way.

‘It’s something I’ve always had in me. If I see something I want to do I go do it.’

He hopes to raise at least £3,000 for The Lunchbowl Network, a charity that provides food and care to orphaned and vulnerable children in Kenya.

The Jungle Ultra will start on 23 May and finish on 29 May.
