The manager of Brighton’s crisis-hit Royal Mail sorting office has apologised to Argus readers for the company’s poor service.
Irene Scott, the delivery manager at the troubled North Road depot in Brighton, wrote to The Argus to say sorry to customers who have waited weeks for important packages to arrive.
Last week we launched the Sort It Out campaign to pressure Royal Mail bosses into improving the service.
Packages have piled up at the North Road depot as workers struggle to adapt to cost-cutting changes introduced last month for the city.
Yesterday The Argus revealed an army of casual postal workers from across the region had been brought in to shift the backlog.
In her letter, Mrs Scott said: “I am writing in response to the recent coverage in The Argus regarding delays in mail deliveries over the past week.
“I wish to apologise first of all to any customers in parts of Brighton who may have experienced delays with their mail deliveries.
“This has been caused by our latest set of changes made to delivery practices in Brighton. Extra staff and managers have been working very hard in order to ensure that all the mail available for delivery is being delivered.
“Changes to local delivery practices in Brighton are part of Royal Mail’s investment to modernise the business.
“I wish to thank customers again for their understanding as we are committed to maintaining the high level of service they expect and deserve.” Are you waiting for parcels from North Road? Email bill.gardner@theargus.co.uk or call 01273 544531.

Mail boss says sorry for Brighton delays
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

To be fair that does look a little like the view from the hill at Moulescoomb estate
