Post staff set to go on strike in Crosby over alleged bullying and harassment

A GROUP of Merseyside postal workers are set to go on strike over alleged bullying and harassment.
Staff at the Crosby Royal Mail delivery office voted in favour of industrial action to take place this Saturday, following a disciplinary case which involved one staff member.
Another member of the postal staff, who came forward to the ECHO, also revealed that staff voted in favour of the action because postmen were allegedly being harassed and threatened with summary suspension and relocation over “trivial matters”.
He claimed that some postmen were being followed while they were on their mail rounds, in a bid to make them go faster so they could not claim overtime.
A total of 93.3% of 45 staff who were in the Communication Workers Union (CWU) voted in favour of the strike 12 days ago.
The areas which will be affected by the strike include Crosby, Waterloo and Thornton.
The Royal Mail said it was “extremely disappointed and surprised” with the CWU’s intention to strike and urged it to call it off for the sake of customers.
A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “We have strictly followed our established disciplinary procedures in this case which have been agreed with the CWU.
“We are urging the CWU to call off the planned stoppage and avoid the unnecessary inconvenience it will cause our customers.”
The conciliation service, ACAS, was drafted in by Royal Mail to address any concerns that its staff might have.
The Royal Mail spokeswoman added: “We are committed to take away any recommendations made and implement agreed solutions that seek to improve employee relations in Crosby.
“We do not acknowledge any allegation of bullying and harassment by the management team in Crosby, and there is no evidence to support this claim.”
Contingency arrangements were being made to limit the impact of any industrial action and the Royal Mail apologised to its customers in advance for any potential disruption.
Mike Yarwood, the Crosby delivery area CWU representative, hopes a settlement can be reached.
He said: “We are working hard to get this resolved before Saturday.
“We have taken an official ballot because of alleged bullying and harassment which was a 93.3% yes vote, and during the time we have taken 15 minutes of industrialised action to action the ballot.
“In the meantime, we have had ACAS involved.”

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

good on them ..wish i had acted differently ..when similar things were happening to me ..but i just trundled along and accepted it because i was too easy going ..the case here is not an isolated incident its going on all over the country in different guises .its easy to step back and say hey its not happening to me ...but come the hour and the day ...the effectiveness of unions has gone out of the window ..i hope the nasty little perpetrators of this bullying are well pleased with themselves and get there nasty little bonus at the end of the year ...if i could relive my time again at royal mail ..( left now )..by god certain people would get some stick from me ..but hey ho to late now ..

No postal problems in Brighton. No evidence of bullying in Crosby. The majority of bullying and harassment claims diluted to grievances. Six months and longer to sort out grievances. Come on Moya, where is your Corporate Responsibility.

Well how surprising,it's great how they always trot this line out.A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “We have strictly followed our established disciplinary procedures in this case which have been agreed with the CWU.
Yes well you would say that,I'm sure you could always get your high paid lawyers to back you up in a court.“We do not acknowledge any allegation of bullying and harassment by the management team in Crosby, and there is no evidence to support this claim.”
Yeah an all is forgiven is the usual one, please don't take it any farther.Mike Yarwood, the Crosby delivery area CWU representative, hopes a settlement can be reached

I went on a reps course recently. Has anyone heard of 'Form HCD1' Harrassment Complaints Database? Not a single one of the reps on the course had heard of it until we saw it in the course work book and it dates back to 2004.

Yes, its a form you complete and send to the Equal Ops at CWU HQ for their monitoring of B & H cases, they will write to you in six months time to ask what was the outcome of the B & H case.Stormproof wrote:I went on a reps course recently.
