THREE teenagers have appeared in court after a Swansea post office was broken into and sweets and chocolates stolen.
The Manselton Post Office was burgled after the front window of the Robert Street outlet was smashed in the early hours.
Swansea Magistrates' Court heard that two males were seen by a witness pulling a third male out of the building through the shattered window, before the trio made off.
The three then returned to the area some time later — and were arrested by police.
The man being dragged out of the post office was 18-year-old Brandon Lee Hann, and a footprint from a pair of trainers he was wearing was found on an "opening hours" sign inside the shop, magistrates were told.
Anwen Evans, prosecuting, said the alarm was raised just after 2am on October 10 when the window was smashed.
She said the total cost of the smashed window and the stolen stock came to around £1,000.
Hann, of Maes Lan, Llansamlet, and Joshua Cullen, 19, of Pentre Treharne Road, Landore, pleaded guilty to burglary. The court heard that Hann had taken Valium tablets and had drunk alcohol with friends on the night before the burglary.
Seriousness
His solicitor, Craig Davies, said: "He was not aware of the seriousness of the offence and his judgment was impaired by alcohol and Valium.
"This is a young man who committed a silly offence and with hindsight is he very remorseful.
"He is scared to death of going into custody — this is a wake-up call."
Mr Davies said that the fact that the three suspects walked back towards the post office after the offence showed either "stupidity or honesty".
Hann was given a 12-month community order with a requirement of 200 hours of unpaid work. He was also made the subject of 9pm to 6am electronically tagged curfew for two months, and was ordered to pay £330 compensation along with £85 costs.
Matters against Cullen were adjourned, and he will be appear before magistrates on Thursday to be committed to Crown Court for sentencing.
The third teenager to appear before magistrates was Kyle Smith, of Myrddin Gardens, who pleaded not guilty to burglary.
His solicitor, Grayson Tanner, said Smith, 18, denied any responsibility for the offence.
Matters were adjourned for trial on August 28, and Smith was given unconditional bail.

"THREE teenagers have appeared in court after a Swansea post office was broken into and sweets and chocolates stolen."
and there was me thinking that twenty-first century teenagers were interested in more exciting things than sweets and chocolates
but then I realised this was in Wales.
