Actor Warwick Davis has joked he is now “on a par with Santa Claus” after receiving a letter by post – which didn’t contain his home address.
The Yaxley-based movie legend was startled when he found a letter on his doormat on Friday morning where the envelope, which had been franked, read: “Postman Please Try and Deliver To Mr Warwick Davis.
“The Star of Life’s too Short and Compere at Stilton Cheese Rolling Day.”
The pint-sized star said: “It goes to show what a brilliant postal system we have here.
“I have a really good postman in the village but this letter must have gone through a sorting office and got passed around before it reached him.
“It’s very clever that it got through and it made me laugh.
“People say that you should use the postcode but this didn’t even have a nearest town written on it.
“I suppose it puts me on a par with Santa Claus. When people write letters to Father Christmas they normally just address it to the North Pole and it still gets through!
“So I would like to say a big well done to Royal Mail. This goes to show they are vindicated in putting up the price of stamps!”
Mr Davis was so stunned by the discovery that he plans to cherish the letter for a few days before opening it and finding out who sent it to him.
But after posting a picture of the letter on the social networking website Twitter, he added that the item was probably a piece of fan mail – something he regularly receives.
He said: “I want to cherish the letter for a few days before I open it, I just find the whole thing very funny.
“I get a fair bit of fan mail and it’s always nice to read it. I’m guessing that’s what this is.
“The fact the person has mentioned the Stilton Cheese Rolling Day makes me think it could be from someone local.”
Warwick Davis started his acting career at the tender age of 11 when he was cast in the role of Wicket the Ewok in Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi.
Following his first appearance in Star Wars he played the star role in the fantasy film Willow opposite Val Kilmer.
Since then he has taken on many roles on the silver screen including parts in the Star Wars prequels and the part of Professor Filius Flitwick in the Harry Potter films.
Last year he teamed up with comedians Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant for the BBC series ‘Life’s Too Short’ in which he played himself.
Royal Mail spokesman Heulyn Gwyn Davies said it was all part of the service.
He said: “Our postmen and women work extremely hard delivering 59 million items of a day to nearly 29 million addresses six days a week across the UK.
“Staff often go the extra mile to ensure that mail arrives with customers and it is always pleasing when our customers recognise the hard work and efforts of our postmen and women.”
