Why should i prep them then.
I don't get paid anything to prep them.
I still don't think people have got this into their heads yet.

How do you measure how much indoor time anyone has?
To do that accurately you would have to know exactly how long a delivery was going to take before you left the office.
That's a very difficult and dangerous game to play.

If the start time is 9.30am.
Meal relief is at 10.00 and dispatch is at 10.30 then they have 30 minutes indoor time.

The other question is do they have sufficient outdoor time to complete the delivery.

Why don't they have 60 minutes indoor time or 90 minutes or 5hrs indoor time?
Is it because we still have this idea that outdoor time somehow trumps indoor time?

The other question is do they have sufficient outdoor time to complete the delivery.
I would suggest from a members point of view that's not the other question...it's the only question.

If he had 5 hours of indoor work he would have 5 hours indoor time.
But as he doesn't, he doesn't.

Thanks for your thoughts............ Don't disagree with most of them  I believe it just highlights the way RM Management(?) don't think things through. I'm all for working within the agreed systems that have been put into place....however the DIMs just seem to think they can come up with new half-arsed ideas to suit their own penny-pinching budgets, all designed to make sure they don't miss out on their bonuses! :d'oh!

I suggest a lot of our PT colleagues feel underpressure to keep the Management (?) sweet, under the misconception that they'll get a better contract out of it. Add that to the fact that most of them aren't even aware of their entitlements and it's a win win situation for RM. :no no

Not sure of the background to this new tactic but I've a feeling the same old "Mafia" of moaning old Posties must have been whingeing to the DIM about how much work they have to do, on other peoples duties, I agree that it makes no difference how much time you spend either indoors or outdoors, or on which duty. But you know how the same old people like to be back and knocked of early.....after all in the "old days" they'd be finished by 10.00! :whistle

I think the crux of the argument is can a member tell a manager that he has cannot prep his D2D because he doesn't have the "indoor time" to do it.
The reason he has no "indoor time" is that it would leave him short of "outdoor time" to complete his delivery.
When you think about that...it's a difficult argument to sustain.
It presumes that we have the right to prioritise one type of work over another.
I wouldn't want to go near an Employment Tribunal with that philosophy. :nervous

having a lot of double slots in my frame I find it easier to bundle D2D's into 20's and when you tie up pull out 20 delivery points and put them at the back of the bundle.
It saves trying to cram them into double slots squashing the mail .

I wasn't suggesting that D2D weren't prepped due to indoor/outdoor time constraints.
Of course they should be prepped and delivered (and any failure to do so should be regarded as management incompetence and they should be sacked.)
But when the duty is built if there is never going to be sufficient indoor time to prep D2D then an alternative solution needs to be found.

A duty with no inbuilt indoor time could not reasonably be expected to prep D2D without both sides understanding that this will necessarily impinge on their ability to complete the outdoor element of the duty without recourse to additional help or overtime.
If the duty holder routinely arrived at work to find the D2D hadn't been prepped then the duty would need to be looked at.

I don't disagree with you but this kind of thing should be dealt with formally by the rep.
It just worries me when i see members advised to tell the manager to f**k off or even worse not to do the D2D at all.
I realise that is not the advice you were giving but others..... :nervous

Have to disagree, definitely easier to throw the D2D's in first.

Yeah i find this and ive tried both ways. I also like the d2d on the back of the letters so once out on delivery i know that once i hit the d2d its time for the next houses mail
I hate having to do loops off the other frame, no matter who you're paired up with they never put the D2D's in right and never put the flats to the back either. Perhaps I'm just picky but find it easier have the large items/D2Ds at the back.
Thats how I was shown, small to large D"D's at the back, I hate it when other people can't be organised and do it that way.
I thought I was the only one that thought like this lol. My P/L partner is the complete opposite, he has them all chucked in any old way with packets the lot, after he did a loop I had tied up he changed how he does it because he found it so much easier to deliver when he was out there. He's only been a postie for 30 years as well :arrrghhh

It's all bollox, full timers are not doing what they are supposed to do when they are told to prep this or that, managers are letting them leave stuff say the D2D's,full timers are giving the i aint got time shite, part timers are coming in to s**t,reps don't give a f**k,colleagues don't give a f**k,the place is f****d,and while we slag off management,we need to look at our selves.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

If a PT arrives at their frame with any part of prep (sequenced; manual; missorts; redirections; backfacing packet prompts; deads) and they go over, they should be making a point of assigning at least part of their overtime cause against it.

Too many PT simply put "extended delivery" when the delivering time was less than 3hrs30mins (excluding breaks), instead of highlighting the root cause of why they went past their contract hours. So in pre-P&L, if 30mins o/t needed to be claimed and delivery time was 3hrs45 (having had to do backfacing and redirections plus missorts), 15 mins needed to be offset against prep completion and 15mins against ext del... using two rows if necessary.

I'm suprised anyone actually wants D2D prepped into frames, it's a massive PITA. Much better to sort them into bundles and have them at the back of the mail.
