Packet Sorting Machine

Post by Budfrog »

New packet sorting machine to be trialled at Swindon MC apparently with the ambitious target of 30k per hour (the fastest throughput of any type of packet sorting machine anywhere).

Not quite sure what staffing levels will be needed, but assume they will link in with AI (address interpretation) and be coded somehow, not sure of the size either but if they are anything like previous 'manual' packet sorting conveyors expect a pretty large footprint.

Will be rolled out to key mail centres after the trial, but do not yet know time scales.

Does anyone know more ??

Staffing levels? That's a joke. :left:

It will be understaffed just like anywhere else in this tin-pot, cheapskate, cowboy outfit.

Not sure on the timeline but yeah seems to be pretty certain it'll be arriving reasonably soon. Staffing wise no-one has been told about any reductions yet.

What sort of machine will it be? Rumour was that it could be anything of a variety of machines - AI based, operators reading out the postcode based, keying based or who knows what.

I doubt that there is a single MC in the country that has got the space for one of them

Maybe, but if,as good ol Moya has said, the letter volumes are falling and packets rising, they may ditch some IMPs in favour of the new packet sorting kit?...
