Enquiry about my local postman

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and have been searching out for advice regarding my local postman. It's not that his service is poor or anything, it's just that in late 2009 he began a friendship with me after I offered to repair his computer, and it's gone worse and sour as time went by.

I repaired his computer but after I gave it back to him, he kept on pressing and pressing me to deal with other problems it has and kept ringing and ringing me, while coming to my house without phoning me first at stupid times.

Only recently we fell out, and approached me at my bus stop asking why I'm upset with him. Since then he has stopped talking to my mum who lives nearby and the whole thing is stressing her out, giving her frosty recpetions every time he delivers signed-for mail.

Is there any way I can send a request to Royal Mail to put him on a different route?, he don't seem to be doing this himself and is quite happy to put my family through grief, when it don't involve them. I used to have him on Facebook, but made me feel uncomfortable with constant private messages and photo comments every day.

Royal Mail will not remove employees from rounds at the request of residents. It would be unfair and more than likely open them to legal action.

Cheers for the advice TrueBlueTerrier and editing that troll's post, this is a forum for advice and chat, not bullying cr@p.

The thing is that he's making me uncomfortable and I shouldn't have to live with that as a customer regardless, however he's contacted me by text message today saying that he will no longer knock on my door for signed mail and instead leave it with my next door neighbour, with a card in my box, same with my parents. So problem solved really :-).

On the contrary. Now he's gone from being annoying, to actually breaking the rules. When he was just being "off" with you, there was nothing you could do. Now however, if he carries out his threat (and assuming you've kept the Text Message). He could get into a lot of trouble with his Manager. Simply "carding" someone, without any attempt to see if they're in, is a disciplinary matter.

Now I don't like getting my colleagues into trouble. But the fact is, that this situation has got out of control. What I would like to ask you, is to send him a message back, giving him the chance to back down from this ludicrous threat to "card" you. I know he's been a complete pain, but if he's already got a disciplinary record (and I've no way of knowing whether he has or not). And he gets caught doing this, it could potentially cost him his job, rather than just getting him moved. RM don't like moving people around if they can help it, because it would mean taking an innocent Postie off his/her round, to make a place for the trouble maker. And I'm sure you wouldn't want to risk him loosing his job if it could be avoided. However: If you can't make him see sense, and he carries out his threat. It's a way to resolve it. I just hope he's got a clean record up to know, which would mean he'd just get a warning.

He's been posting mail since roughly summer 2009, we used to get tons of different postpeople coming and going and now this guy looks like staying for the duration until he retires or gets another job.

So indeed, I'll have to put up with him and his card threat although it means if he sticks to it, I won't have any more trouble from him. However, just in case he don't keep to this and starts knocking on my parents/my own door, just to be a pest, I'll report him. I don't want him to lose his job over this, but if worse comes to worse I'll have no choice but to report him, and have kept the text message and all e-mail contact between myself and him just in case.

Am sure he's got a clean record, as he has not been doing the job for long and am after all the only person he posts to, who he has ever had contact with beyond simply delivering the mail/signing for it on request.

If he was to knock on the door, be more professional about it and stop giving my mum stress through his frosty receptions, then all would be okay.

I have indeed text him asking him to drop the card threat, telling him it's a disipinary matter and that I'd rather he just deliever the mail and put all personal feelings aside. This way he will think I'm trying to be nice to him again, as I've given him some advice to keep his job and thus drop this personal rift with myself and my folks.

there is a call and collect service available, you would have to make your way to office yourself right enough but no need to meet your postman now. just another option for you

Have not heard any communication from him since the text message I sent back regarding the idea of breaking the rules by carding me and sending the registered mail to a neighbour, but a few weeks ago he parked his post van in the way of the pavement I have to access to walk onto my street, while parking up on the pavement causing an obstruction. At the same time, his van was also obstructing a driveway at a house next door, meaning the people who live there couldn't drive their car out of their property. The lady who lives there seen the van parked and started to run down the road to tell him off, but drove off before she got to him.

There have also been complaints about him by locals, one of which was delivering mail to wrong addresses. One instance was he posted a letter to the local pub, when the landlord checked the mail, the first line of the address was wrong, so he went outside to tell the postman the letter was not his. However, he asked the landlord of the pub "What's your postcode?", after he said what that was, the postman then told him the artefact is legally for him as the postcode matched the one he said, although the first line of the address was wrong.

This meant the landlord having to walk for 15 mins up a steep hill as his car was in for repairs, to the address the letter was meant for before walking back for 15 mins also. Even if his car was in order, it would have meant petrol being wasted because of somebody's fault and not his.

I am not sure if the locals have been complaining about the postman, but it seems funny that he has not been posting since the first day of this month and the event I mentioned above was roughly the same time. He used to post like 1-3 times a day between Monday and Saturday, now we have two new postpeople alongside the one lady we had before since 2010.

When I first repaired his computer, he dumped it on me by putting it in his postvan before a round and gave it to me with that day's mail. How he knew I could repair them, I'll never know as I never mentioned this to him. A friend of mine said he shouldn't have been carrying that in his van and should have done it in the weekend away from work time.
