Its usually a saturday morning they come in but some will come on a friday to collate them etc for the following week. They are in non uniform at the office. Would you ignore it and just shake your head, tell them to their faces, or tell a manager (but not give any names) who can address the whole office about it. The managers have long gone when they come in which is probably half the problem.

Report him to the IB, I don't think they will be too happy about someone taking mail home with themPostman Plodd wrote:Guy who prepped (or didnt, depending on how quick the little Hans Moleman looking mofo wanted to get out) my walk took all next week's enormous banded bundles of d2d out with him to prep at home over the w/e. He walked right past the gaffers as the bundles were piled so high he couldnt see in front of him, they didnt bat an eye.

when you say the union did nothing all he/she can do in this situation is tell the dom this must stop or he will register a stage 1 disagreement. If he/she did this and no more of this testing/mangers banding up happens then jobdun by the rep.boogyman wrote:same in our office, SAD GITS coming in 45 mins early, also working through breaks.MANAGEMENT LOVE IT, yesterday they went out with 2 posties testing the walk, oh and the manager banded the walk up while they were on their 25 min break and also NO NO NO TROLLYS were used. bloody great and union do nothing. Re: Staff coming in on day to prep d2ds
A couple of Weeks ago i came back too my office after completing my Saturday duty to find one of the guys preping his doors to doors for the following Week
so asked why he was doing that,he told me was on holiday from Monday.
so therfore told to get a life and go home.
Yet,if that was not bad enough.Monday arrived and guess who was in prepping his door to doors on holiday and in uniform even
Our union rep had to basicaly escort him out the building,as our dom certainly wasn't going to say anything to him

Just when you think you work in the only office where these cretins exist its annoying yet refreshing to learn that these cretins in fact are more common than you think.. We have one bloke at out office who does the normal coming in 1 hour early every day and always has to be one step ahead of everyone!
This certain bloke brings his wife and 4 year old in on a saturday and they work as a trio folding and putting the door to doors in for the next week.. sometimes his door to doors for the following week are missing when everyone elses are under the fitting and its common knowledge he has taken them home on a friday night to fold...
You think to your self surely this idiot is one of a kind.... unfortunately he is not!

Re: Staff coming in on day to prep d2ds
We have some whoppers in our office, but going in to prep d2d on a day off is a new one on me,thankfully.
I can just imagine getting the wife & daughter's up early on my Saturday off to go in to put the next weeks pamphlets together.
Got to be ahead of the game...

This much be a breach...
You are only insured and covered by royal mail on your working days. If you come in on your day off 'without' pay and have an accident royal mail would not give you a penny and say they had no idea the people involved were working.
You must report this to both the union and your manager 'in writing'. Chances are they are well aware already, but in this job people in the right or people that do things correctly are made to go the long way about all kinds of issues due to managers and a large percentage of union reps basically being useless. We expect managers to fail in all sorts, but it should be a 'no no' for union staff not to jump all over issues they see on a daily basis, but when you have union reps coming in early, working rest days for overtime and using their cars the faith is simply lost.
Can you imagine the guy from Mc Donalds coming in on his day off to prep some buns or the Sainsburys worker coming in to stack a few shelves on his day off?
It's even more tragic when you consider d2d are a flat rate now.

Re: Staff coming in on day to prep d2ds
My take home pay last week was £179.18 after stoppages. I don't pay into a pension as I can't bank on what the hours will be each week, it can vary widely. Yes, I am on a 20 hour contract like a lot of newer people in the job, and I was on holiday last week. That's why I try and work rest weeks and sometimes holidays, just to get a decent wage like the full timers get out of it. If I was on a full time contract I would certainly take my holidays and rest weeks, however we are not all in the same boat.
I don't think I am sad at all, what is sad is the 20 hour contract, although perhaps in these times I should be glad it is not a 1 hour contract?
I agree that early starters, runners, splitting the P & L when off and non-use of trolleys is making the job of evaluating our work properly a nonsense.
