Driving duties

Hi all
Would anyone let me know can you sign for driving duties even though i work in processing
There is an enhacement of wages attached To the above,they are professsonal driving duties

I don't see why not. So long as there's a vacancy for a driving duty. I know several people who started off working at the RDC, and have gone on to be drivers.

Can't see why not. We had a lady that ran the canteen that became one of our linos on deliveries!

Mind you she was probably the worst lino in the history of RM, completely clueless. After months of dodging dealing with cutoffs they made her go out and deliver some of it. Half hour into delivery she tripped in her high heels and was off for a month!

If you passed your category B (car) test before 1 January 1997 you would also have had the entitlement to drive vehicles between 3,500 and 7,500 kg (now known as C1 and C1E vehicles).
If you passed after 1997 then you will have to pass a test for this size of vehicle. You will not get training from Royal Mail as swoosta states.

As for digital tachocards, these I believe are free on the first issue but if you loose it or it is stolen then you will have to pay for its replacement.

Priority is normally given to someone who has been displaced when a vehicle was removed form their office. This driver will still be paid the MGV money and is normally offered the drive first.
If no takers to the vacancy and your name is first on the list then there is no reason why you cannot have this duty. The tacho card is not a issue here.

Nope, in our MC....

YOU have to pay (£19 i think) for the Tacho Card, and then claim it back off RM....... Which can take MONTHS......

Just got my renewal form through as my card runs out in June..... Not going to renew it.

If it is advertised area wide as a vacancy, then yes you can.

However, if there is no headcount vacancy, then no you can't, it's just up for resign internally within the section

They won't pay for the training. But according to a notice that went up on our notice board, you can get heavily subsidised training, via the Union Learning Rep, on a first come, first served basis. I can't remember how much it costs, but I remember being surprised at how cheap it was. I don't know whether it's just my Branch that're doing it. But it would be a good idea for anyone interested, to get in touch with their Learning Rep, to see if it's available in their area.

If you are a separate function and i would say you are ,then the best way would be to apply for Distribution by the use of the transfer list, ie put it in writing to your line manager.

The Distribution function at the MC where icarus works may have gone over to logistics (where I work they have) so any vacant duties would probably get advertised in the MCs in the local logistics area and wherever the local logistics depot is (where the artics are based).

That is a new one on me. Unless this new PSP online payment system kicks in and then you have to rely on the managers sending the paymen email off.

I will ask around the office when I am back and see if anyone has renewed their licence.

Hi Talell - as a professional driver I know several people (RM employees that is) within my function who have paid for themselves to pass their class1 and now work in distribution as Network drivers yet they have not been reimbursed. If, as you say, it is in the agreement can you please provide a link or PM me so I can give you my address where you can send me a copy - I am sure those new drivers will look forward to getting the money back - Many thanks.

Stampy - your line manager has a contact name who he should forward your name and application form to for your digital tacho be it a new application or a renewal- you do not pay yourself and reclaim the money. Mine runs out this month and that is the procedure we as professional drivers follow.....
