UK Post Office prepares to re-procure IT managed services

The UK Post Office is gearing up to reorganise its IT procurement operations as it prepares to spin off from the Royal Mail.


Confirming the decision, the Post Office released a prior information Journal European Union (OJEU) notice which stated: “As part of its organisational transformation and separation from Royal Mail Group (RMG), Post Office Limited (POL) intends to re-procure the full range of managed IT services supporting both its administrative and customer facing environments (e.g. branch, web)."

The notice explained that the service integration and service desk function will provide assurance and management of end-to-end IT services to the POL business.

“The combination of the service integration function and Service Desk operations ensures that a single provider will act as the first line of support and management for IT related questions, incidents and problems, as well as having the end-to-end accountability for the delivery of each IT service,” the notice stated.

According to a report in the trade journal Computing other IT services are to be outlined in the second OJEU notice, which is yet to be released: “The prior information notice says the current plan is to award a contract or contracts in relation to the applications, data centre, infrastructure, networks and workplace between late June and early September 2013.”
