Two postmen and their friends get in the saddle for charity cycle from Edinburgh to London

Four men have taken teamwork to the next level by making a 592-mile journey from Edinburgh to London on tandem bike.

Garreth Ellidge, James Capstick, David Harries and Peter Baker, along with back-up driver Andy Brown, have set themselves the challenge to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation UK.

Gareth, James and Andy, three Burnley-based Royal Mail postmen helped by friends David and Peter, hope to raise more than £4000 for the charity.

Riding on two tandem bikes, the team set off from Edinburgh Castle on Saturday, and aim to dismount at London's Olympic Stadium on Saturday, March 30, stopping by each of the UK's capital cities, as well as Dublin, on their way.

Garreth said: “There’s no doubt we’ll be stiff and sore by the time we reach the Olympic Stadium in London but we are honoured to be helping such a great cause.

“We’ve already arranged a few fundraising events including a successful quiz night. We wish to thank all our supporters and are looking forward to meeting more friends and colleagues on the road.”

Make-A-Wish Foundation UK helps grant special 'wishes' to some of the 20,000 children and young people in Britain currently fighting life-threatening conditions. The charity needs to raise £6.8 million in 2012 alone to achieve this.

Andy Holland, Challenge and Events manager at Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, said: “We are thrilled that Garreth, Peter, David, James have chosen to cycle round the country for us and wish them all the best. Make-A-Wish hopes to be granting 1000 magical wishes this year; a target we couldn’t reach without the help of dedicated supporters like the Royal Mail cycle team.”
