AS efficient and reliable as a Rolls-Royce engine, Royal Mail used to be a service the nation could take pride in.
You could set your watch by the postman who, well-groomed and well-mannered, would deliver the mail before you headed off to work.
These days the sun will be sinking into the west before the postie, dressed like a hoodie, aggressively shoves your battered letters through the door.
However news that one postman is sacked every working day for stealing mail comes as a shock even by Royal Mail’s own rapidly declining standards.
Over the five years to 2011, 1,759 staff were sacked and prosecuted for mail theft. In 2011 alone, 309 postmen ended up in court for pinching our mail.
Understandably, complaints from the public about missing letters rose by 24 per cent last year. No wonder customers have lost all faith in the service. An unattractive proposition for private enterprise, we can only hope that the Coalition’s decision to give workers a stake and to revive the hunt for a buyer will reverse this spiral of decline.
It would be a fitting legacy in a Diamond Jubilee year to witness a renaissance in standards and the restoration of trust in Royal Mail.

Re: WHY OUR SECOND-CLASS POSTAL SERVICE IS FAILING TO DELIVE
Two swipes at us in two days from the Pornbroker's stable.
All part of the dirty tricks campaign to turn the public against us, so that there is little opposition to privatisation.
We can expect plenty more of the same over the coming months.
(As an aside, who the f*ck reads the Express these days? A moribund newspaper for a moribund readership.)

If you do the maths - 1,759 over 5 years = average of 352/year.
So 2011 was actually a good year for us.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

That isn't even true.Over the five years to 2011, 1,759 staff were sacked and prosecuted for mail theft. In 2011 alone, 309 postmen ended up in court for pinching our mail.
The Freedom of Information request that these figures relate to states the figures identify the number of Royal Mail Letters employees, casuals and agency staff who have been dismissed or resigned over allegations of theft over the last five years.
It doesn't even mention court cases.

They must have run out of stories about Princess Diana.Straight4ward wrote:Two swipes at us in two days from the Pornbroker's stable.

And where in this "story" does it list the reasons why RM is failing to deliver. Reading it, it is due solely to one postman a day being sacked for theft.
