Austrian post office looks to expand into Poland

A branch of the principal Austrian postal service may soon be at large in Poland, offering a challenge to the state owned postal service Poczta Polska.

Post Acht Beteiligungs, which is owned by Osterreichische Post, is looking to purchase Polish company Kolportaz Rzetelny (Reliable Distribution), a wing of the Integer.pl Group that specializes in bulk deliveries.

“I can confirm that we are in talks with Osterreichische Post,” reveals Rafal Brzoska, chairman of Integer.

“Decisions can be expected over the coming months,” he told Puls Biznesu.

The Austrian State Treasury has a 53 percent stake in Osterreichische Post and the latter is active in some 12 countries, taking in Belgium, Holland, Serbia and Romania, among others.

Poland is the only missing link on the map between the North Sea and the Black Sea.

Osterreichische Post made a net profit of 123 million euros in 2011 (504 million zloty).
