The Royal Mail's delivery office in Whitstable has gone up for sale, with a board appearing on the building a few days ago.

The office, which is the depot where local posties collect the mail for delivering to local households, is earmarked for closure in January next year. From then on, postal workers will go to Canterbury to sort and bring back our post.

Royal Mail says the Cromwell Road office is not big enough for modern machinery, and the Herne Bay depot is also set to close a month later.

Local post workers have been campaigning against the closures, claiming the extra mileage they will have to drive in getting to Canterbury and back will be costly and also add to traffic and pollution. See their Facebook page for more on this.
