We were briefed on Wednesday about these later starts and you could have heard a pin drop. I think the DOM is aware that we have an application for a ballot about it and was quiet surprised that no-one argued it. I think it might have worried him.

Yes - I shall echo that thanx - Seniorman. I am at home sick at prez - in our branch the unit reps & members are being treated like 'Mushrooms'! I cannot get in touch with branch officers - as I understand there is a 'briefing' today. The only info - my members are getting - is from me - at home gleaning info from this site. Keep it coming!

I've been amazed how many postie's in my office have been so short sighted about the later starts saying "I'm looking forward to the lie in" etc. The later starts will mean for 5 out of 6 weeks we'll be delivering until 14:45 and Saturday's will be longer than they are now.

Customers don't want their mail later, and so much for getting the mail all delivered by 2pm! "It's all in the wording", according to our DOM - "RM endeavour to deliver the mail by then", were his words!

Just two points mate. The people who were enthusiastic about a 6.30 start mostly all come in early and race around to get finished as early as they can, and the words of your DUM echo the words of managers when we had the 09.30 last letter standard and that couldn't be done. It suddenly became an 'aspiration' rather than a standard.

I've received a letter stating later starts from 8th October and am concerned.

1.Early Shift Allowance should go into basic pay.
2.We should NOT have to work longer Saturdays(will probably mean we will have to take out mail sort and there will be a large increase in DSA meaning Saturday will be the heaviest day of the week).YES GUYS SATURDAY WILL BE THE BUSIEST DAY.
3.Will mean more customers having gone out resulting in more p739 Items.

The union need to organise a national ballot/consultation to raise all these issues and come up with an agreement,until then NO office should agree to this forced change.

The CWU will do no such thing mate and do you know why? Because anyone at area level and above don't work on Saturdays. So, they're not bothered about the likes of us.
In 2000, I went to Wimbledon to meet Sir William Hayes when he was DGS. This meeting took place on a Thursday afternoon. After showing us the photos of real socialist trade unionists on hs office wall, Lord William of Liverpool was talking to us when a woman knocked on the door, poked her head around and said. "Right, have a nice weekend, Billy!" I remember thinking, "Here's us, with another two days to go and here's these frigging champaign socialists finishing on Thursday".

Asking that shower to look after our interests in getting an early finish on Saturday is like asking Bin Laden to serve kosher meat in case he offends Israel. No chance of that happening!

Yep I couldn't agree more about the champagne socialists bit mate, however I have witnessed the crazy situation of people asking DOMs of all people what's happening about the 6.15 starts,and it is blatantly obvious that nobody has got a clue about what is happening,and no one is taking a lead on this.

The least the union can do is tell offices not to agree anything locally,as then at least we have some sort of guidance.

The DOMs are spreading all sorts of rumours at the moment and it does not help that people keep asking them for info,as that is just fueling the situation.

I would NOT ask any DOM what is happening about strikes or any changes.
