Aylsham councillors to send ‘strongly worded’ letter to Royal Mail over delivery office closure

A strongly worded letter is to be sent to Royal Mail after the postal giant announced it was closing Aylsham’s delivery office.

Members of the town council were angered by the news as it will leave some residents having to make a 17-mile round trip to North Walsham to collect their post.

The delivery office will officially close on Monday, March 12. Customers who miss any routine deliveries will be able to collect, or arrange re-delivery through the Post Office in the town’s Budgens store.

But other items such as PO Box mail and deliveries needing signatures and surcharges will be sent to an improved delivery office in North Walsham, where the service has relocated.

Local members were saddened by the closure when they discussed it at a meeting last night.

Liz Jones said: “I just think it’s a huge inconvenience, not everyone finds it easy to get to North Walsham.”

Mike Bush added: “I’d really like to know why they have got to do it? Why it’s not possible to improve the service here to facilitate what we already have.”

Members admitted trying to get the closure decision changed would be like “banging our heads against a brick wall” but agreed to write a letter expressing their disappointment

"Write a strongly worded letter."
What a weak response to an obvious deterioration of their service.
So, that's it, Aylsham council, is it? Sheeesh! :d'oh!

If it's anything like a CWU strongly worded letter...

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Presumably they can refuse a change in use of the old site so no one will buy it from rm. Just to be awkward like. :angel

No, it's District Coucils, not Town Councils, that have planning powers and even they are greatly restricted in their decisions, near enough every application being approved now unless there's a strong reason not to.

I think there's a difference between strong words and strong language.
