No he shouldn't but he probably will tell you to complete.

Your well within your rights to work your contracted hours - but its a catch 22 situation and you wont score many brownie points off your DOM.

Now we're entering the silly season (end of march, early april) and with all the bank holidays on the horizon i fear the worst :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray :pray

If they force you to take it out knowing that you won't be able to deliver it inside your contracted hours and are aware that you do not wish to work over your contracted hours and have no contingency plan avialable if you bring it back...that could be considered a deliberate failure(Wilful Delay) on the part of management in much the same way that hiding it in a cupboard is.
The decision to deliberately fail mail is way above a line managers pay grade.
Some line managers are unaware of this and tend to change their tune when faced with the reality.

Keep it simple with management...only give them two choices.

Choice 1. You take full responsibility for the delivery in which case you make the decision how much you can deliver in your contracted hours.
Choice 2. Management make the decision how much you can deliver in your contracted hours in which case you reserve the right to bring back their mistake....and make it clear if they get it wrong it is their mistake.
Offer nothing else.

Neither do i, but say if your on a temp contract you could be threatened with non renewal, another example - you need a couple of days annual leave... he could say the books full. You need to finish early... staffing issues could be used as an excuse. All these little things you may want one day all lie at the hands of the DOM.

I am a great believer in rights - right and wrongs - wrong, but in the world of royal mail it seems wrongs - right and rights - wrong

Isn't there an agreement/entitlement the cut off procedure should be put up on a wall in every DO? No arguing about the correct procedures that way. Oh wait,I've just seen the flaw, I suppose no way of getting work done for free if that was done. No other reason why the rules are not put up on the wall. How simple would that be? But then, obviously every postie would abuse the rules for their own gain. Never known a company like this, hopefully never know another. Complete ____s .

I had this situation today and i've had it before too due to obscene amounts of mail ( declining dontcha know :hmmmm ) and not being able to get out early enough.

Today i was told to do it via Cycle due to my p+l partner being off and the bloke who was on it had never done that walk before, anyway come 930am i informed the Lino i wouldn't be able to complete to which he replied looking at my frame what do you think you'll be able to get done - i said that and that and left the rest in... still there when i got back at 1pm :no no

It will be the same tomorrow if i don't get out earlier enough :dance
