Some householders in Bingley have been warned they risk not having their post delivered because paths leading to their homes are considered too slippery and unsafe.
Bingley Councillor Mark Shaw was among those to receive the hand-delivered letter from the Royal Mail. He said a postal worker at the Bingley delivery office had told him the warning had been sent to numerous addresses in the area where delivery staff were concerned about slipping on footpaths.
Coun Shaw (Con) lives at a block of flats in a converted former Sunday school in Dryden Street, Bingley, with a metal walkway to the main entrance.
He said: “The letter was hand-delivered so if it was that unsafe then why did they come up the path to post it? It is a complete over-reaction. They are closing the sorting office in Bingley so when that happens everyone is going to have to go all the way to Bradford to get their post.”
The letter, signed by Bingley delivery office manager David Hall, states: “It has been brought to my attention that while our delivery officer was attempting to deliver to your address that the ground was either slippery or unsafe.”
Mr Hall writes that the safety of all Royal Mail staff is taken “extremely seriously” and adds: “We hope by advising you about this you will put some measures in place to ensure the area is no longer slippery or dangerous, however in the future if our delivery officer feels it is unsafe to attempt to deliver to your address then they have been instructed by me to bring the mail back to the office and suspend delivery until a time when it is safe to recommence.”
Royal Mail spokesman Morag Turnbull said deliveries were only suspended as a last resort if the safety of postal workers was at risk. She said the letter followed a member of staff slipping on black ice three weeks ago while delivering the mail She said: “As a precaution, we have written to a number of customers in Bingley whose access to their address has been identified as a potential risk of slipping to our staff.”

Off topic,now I know why

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If the metal path was fixed or ensure that it is salted in the bad weather then they wouldn't have that problem but it's another over reaction by the DOM, all that has to happen is the postie makes a decision on the day whether it is safe or not and if it's not then bring it back to the office and follow whatever procedure is in place............simple
And I hate those fooking Tories, ruin the job and then complain................
