Hi guys,
I've asked managers this and have had no luck finding a consistent answer and the hours I work means that there's never any HR people in the office so I thought I'd ask here seeing as its a fountain of RM knowledge
I'm on a 14 hrs/week contract and someone told me that we still get the 4 1/2 weeks of paid leave every year but I'm skeptical, is this right? I always thought it was pro-rata?
Also I usually end up doing another 15-20 hours a week overtime and if holiday is pro-rata does this add to the leave I can accrue?
Thanks for helping, I'm just about getting to grips with how RM actually works!

Your basic holiday entitlement will be based on contracted hours. Under the new system you will get 63 hours for the year - which in essence equates to 4.5 weeks.
As to the other matter, Royal Mail will probably only give you the contracted leave, but in the past people on 1 hour contracts have taken steps to get the average from previous weeks. IIRC it was a member on here called Whitemoor - if you do a search on RMC it might guide you in what action you can take if any.

You will get the same length of holidays 4.5 wks but you will only be paid your 14hrs when on your hols or sick,
no your hours of overtime don't count, they should but don't
This is how RM save a fortune every year

Yes you get them all as well as long as you are a 5 day worker - any less then it gets complicated and I believe its either pro rata, or paid only on days you were due to work. I am not sure as we don't have anyone on less than 5 days here.

I only work 2 days (16 hours) not Monday. I've never really looked into it but i know that my dads work (government) pro rata holidays. Especially as part-timers have the same rights etc.
Bank Holidays take number in the year, usually 8 divide by 5 and multiply by the number of days you work. Even if you don,t work bank holidays you should be given an addition to your annual holiday entitlement based on that formula. Same for job share.

I agree with you. It is covered in the Harmonisation of Part Time Conditions of Service Agreement. Otherwise, if you only worked Mondays you would get the majority of the BHs but if you worked only Tuesday you would not get any. So it is simple logic. I have raised this with my local manager as he said I am entitled to less leave than is stated in my contract from RM. Our sorting office is not accustomed to employing part timers. I am waiting for him to contact HR as I believe it may affect the entire part time workforce in my sorting office. The calculation is based on a 40 hour week 8/40*no. of hours worked per week. For 2012/2013 it should be 9/40*no. of hours worked as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee is this year.
