Casual worker stole from Christmas parcels

A STUDENT who stole from packages while working for the Royal Mail is worried a conviction for dishonesty will scupper his plans of becoming a banker, a court heard.
Raza Hussain, of Battersea Road, Easton, plundered the contents of parcels while working as a Christmas casual at a sorting office in Bristol during December last year.
Hussain, who takes business studies at the City Academy in Easton, admitted two counts of theft when he appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court.
The 18-year-old hopes to study business finance and mathematics at university and ultimately wants to become a banker, the court heard.
But his dreams may not be realised after he was handed a 12-month community order, 150 hours of unpaid work, a 24-week curfew between 7pm and 7am Sunday and Thursday and was ordered to pay £1,104 costs.
Celia Strathdee, prosecuting on behalf of Royal Mail, said Hussain had been taken on as a Christmas casual between November 30 and December 14 when he was dismissed.
She said: "Suspicions were first aroused when an empty postal packet was found hidden behind a radiator in the gentlemen's toilets at the sorting office.
"On December 14 a manger saw the defendant acting suspiciously and he was taken to a private room to be searched."
Many items including pens, eye shadow and a phone cover were found on his person and a clear bag with jewellery was found hidden in his sock. They also searched his bag and found further items.
Miss Strathdee said police were called and a further search was carried out at his home where a ring was discovered.
She said in total the amount of items stolen, which also included memory cards, earphones, a box of dominoes and VW car badges, equated to £224.
She said: "As a result he was interviewed and said he had taken all the items from postal packages, some of which he claimed were already half open.
"He said he didn't know why he had done it and a friend from school had suggested it. He estimated he had taken things from between 10 and 20 packages."
Sarah Turland, defending, said Hussain immediately admitted what he had done and co-operated fully with police.
"He has no previous convictions or cautions whatsoever," she said.
Miss Turland said all the items had been taken during one shift. She said: "Basically he gave into temptation and took the items which he secreted around his person.
"He is extremely remorseful and shocked at what he has done. He says his father is shocked and extremely upset that his son has been stealing."
She explained that Hussain is a full-time student with the City Academy and added: "Ultimately he wants a career in banking. He does not know what effect this conviction will have on his career plans."

I dunno - it appears a perfect character trait for a city banker.A STUDENT who stole from packages while working for the Royal Mail is worried a conviction for dishonesty will scupper his plans of becoming a banker, a court heard.

"Ultimately he wants a career in banking. He does not know what effect this conviction will have on his career plans."
Given the current reputation of bankers he's probably not got much to worry about.
He probably just thought of it as getting his bonus a few years early.

There is plenty of bankers who get less money than posties and get very little bonuses. The people at the top get bonuses, from many companies for doing sfa.

That's what I assumed too... you don't go and put yourself through a degree to go work in a bank behind the counter, even I'm qualified enough to do that job without a degree (for now!). Besides, not many people aspire to work behind a bank counter these days!DGP1 wrote:They're not bankers, they bank staff. Re: Casual worker stole from Christmas parcels
Which is why he's virtually guaranteed a job as a Banker, as several people have already said. It's just a pity that he got a job as a Christmas casual. Yet more damage to our reputations, because of a minority of dishonourable people.bringon4dayweeks wrote:well hes a thieving t3wat

You really need to type something rather than just quoting everything
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
