Royal Mail has confirmed that some of the jobs at its Shrewsbury Mail Centre are to be cut.
A six month review has begun into making changes at the operation where 440 staff currently work.
Royal Mail's Alex Warner said: "Any changes in Shrewsbury will, unfortunately, impact on some colleagues."
The Communication Workers Union and Unite Communication and Managers' Association are involved in the review.
Royal Mail said changes were necessary because of the growth in electronic communications and the decline in overall mail volumes.
It said it now delivers 59 million items a day compared to 84 million items a day six years ago.
There are 58 mail centres across the UK and Royal Mail has already announced that 16 centre are to close, including Worcester.
A decision on the Shrewsbury centre is expected at the end of August.

Re: Shrewsbury Mail Centre jobs under threat
We were told today that the 6 month review here was about to begin. No options were foremost in the minds of the management. If, and only if, it were to close then no-one would lose their jobs by redundancy. The workforce would be reduced by natural wastage, early retirement or VR!
Last week we wee told that our traffic figures for deliveries had not changed in the two years since it was last done so the IWT was being revisited.
Lets see what else they can come up with!

Well thanks for that Mr Warner maybe you should inform us at Shrewsbury of the impact before going to the BBC.

I realise we were told locally,I'm objecting to Warner talking to the BBC about the inevitability of job losses before the conclusion of the review. His views don't inspire any confidence for the staff.

Absolutely agree with you! No decision has yet been made, yet he says shite like this regarding job losses!terrace wrote:I realise we were told locally,I'm objecting to Warner talking to the BBC about the inevitability of job losses before the conclusion of the review. His views don't inspire any confidence for the staff.
It feels like a stitch-up and a decision has already been made!

Some rather bitter ex -employee comments who think all 440 RM workers deserve to lose their jobs.
