In my office one of the pairings has a part time driver and full time non driver who does not have a licence.fishtank wrote:woofwoof wrote: what if there both full time duties as it says they are not skilled jobs but as a pair
You've lost me now woof.
Again what does hours have to do with driving?
Full-time driver/part-time driver...what's the difference?

My office has lots of part-time and full-time drivers.P13 wrote: In my office one of the pairings has a part time driver and full time non driver who does not have a licence.
Since in 99% of cases you aren't likely to be driving until you are heading out on delivery it makes absolutely no difference whether a driver is full-time or part-time.

Re: the demise of seniority
Staff with only a limited amount of service always criticise seniority until many years later ( if still working) when they are towards the top of it .
Nobody has yet to explain what replacement there would be for seniority ?
Management hate seniority ( different when they were benefiting from it ) . They would love to see a system where they chose .
Imagine that ....Better the devil you know ..

Just another tool for bullying & harrassment - just like phase 2 n phase 3 also bullying tools for DOMs, same faces on it everyday whilst the faces that fit get out the door early minus any phase.

Re: the demise of seniority
If the first person is harder working, more productive, has a better attitude and more skills than the 2nd, why shouldn't he be put in the role that suits his hard work and productivity, so that the business gets the most out of him, rather than letting him fester simply because he's worked there less time.comeracing wrote:you think somebody who works 39 hrs a week with 3 years service should have a pick of a new duty over somebody on 36 hrs a week with 15 years service

So who is to decide who is to decide who is harder working, more productive, has a better attitude and more skills ?risen.north wrote:If the first person is harder working, more productive, has a better attitude and more skills than the 2nd, why shouldn't he be put in the role that suits his hard work and productivity, so that the business gets the most out of him, rather than letting him fester simply because he's worked there less time.comeracing wrote:you think somebody who works 39 hrs a week with 3 years service should have a pick of a new duty over somebody on 36 hrs a week with 15 years service
Mangaement presumably !
And then is there any suggestion that management - assuming they can judge hard working, productivity, attitude and skills - will make decisions based on fairness rather than favouritism ? Of course not.

Why not?woofwoof wrote: our fixed duties are full time with 2 full timers in each van how can a non driver pick in to that pairing the part timers cover days off
Only one person can drive a van.
And that wouldn't stand in my office.
How can you force part-timers into cover jobs just because they are part-time?
That's discriminatory and most likely borderline unlawful.

because the less senior kids are part time so if you dont have the seniority you get whats left in the repickfishtank wrote:Why not?woofwoof wrote: our fixed duties are full time with 2 full timers in each van how can a non driver pick in to that pairing the part timers cover days off

Then that isn't anything to do with their hours woof or whether they can drive...it's purely down to length of service.
You're messing with my head now.

Re: the demise of seniority
so why carnt you make all the pairing full time in duty builder and the day off covers part time it creates 1in 4 satdays and if you are a senior man you get a fixed full time duty unless you are a leave reserve again picked on seniorityfishtank wrote:woofwoof wrote: because the less senior kids are part time so if you dont have the seniority you get whats left in the repick

Re: the demise of seniority
Because it's blatantly unfair to the part-timers that they can never pick a fixed duty just because they are part-time.woofwoof wrote:

If they are more senior to full-time members you are risking an Employment Tribunal under the (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2002.
In that case Royal Mail would have to show a legitimate business reason for the treatment and with hundreds of offices operating a purely seniority based system this would be difficult.
To be honest woof,in my opinion it's a shabby way to treat part-timers who take enough crap in this job.

Re: the demise of seniority
Quite a lot of you seem how can i say it "Stupid"
Any full time vacancies being created go to the senior Part-time employees unless they don't want full time.
Having a driving licence is irrelevant. (unless it's a specific/specialised duty that involves driving)
It's clearly an office revision he's talking about and so many Part-timers are being made full time.
It's NOT and i will emphasis and repeat for you who quite clearly can't read his post It's NOT a driving duty. It's an office re-pick.
So it's wrong that a less senior Part-timer is being made full-time before him.
There will be lots of full time employees who don't drive, are they being demoted to Part-time?
I've never drove for Royal Mail and i don't intend to unless i get an allowance for it.
In my office part-timers are being made up ( driver and non-drivers) on the basis of seniority not driving.
1.Grievance in against your manager.
2.Another against your rep/area rep.
3. Contact headquarters directly.
They're all wrong. Don't accept or stand for it. Good luck.
