PLANS for an out-of-town Post Office sorting office, expected to lead to the closure of the Narberth branch, have been given the go-ahead.
Plans by Idris Davies to build a Royal Mail delivery office on land near the Boar's Head pub in Templeton have been approved by Pembrokeshire planners.
The application states: "The delivery centre will become a local centre for the preparation and sorting of letters and packets for local deliveries."
It had been feared that Whitland and Narberth's delivery offices could be closed.
Royal Mail spokesman Heulyn Gwyn Davies said the Whitland sorting office was under no immediate threat.
However, he added: "Royal Mail has already confirmed that we are seeking to relocate our delivery office in Spring Gardens, Narberth."
Royal Mail spokesman Mike Norman added: "We welcome the approval of the planning application. We will continue to work on our detailed plans for the project, involving our staff at every stage. When more detailed information becomes available, our staff at Narberth will be the first to be informed."

"Royal Mail spokesman Heulyn Gwyn Davies said the Whitland sorting office was under no immediate threat", 'immediate' being the significant word.
