Have said this before but we had a postie sacked for taking a pee down the side of 2 houses in the hedge. Would say taking van home for a toilet break is quite acceptable if no facilities on the round. If not then take it back to the office and use that toilet.

"down the side of 2 houses" was silly, even dogs only need one.
But this thread isn't about taking the van home for a toilet break, it's about taking the van home for a meal break which surely is not acceptable unless your home is on the authorised delivery route which in this case it was not.

I wouldn't say it was unacceptable but i would say it would be advisable to inform management beforehand that you would be having your meal relief at home.
I would imagine,depending on the distance involved it wouldn't be an issue in 99% of cases.
Obviously taking mail home at any time could be viewed as an increased security risk by an awkward manager.

Or was she driving 20 minutes each way and putting 40 minutes on her docket?

Had she been previously advised this was unacceptable? This is the logical first step in any conduct issue.

On the most serious side (rarely seen, thankfully) if they expose their genitals with intent that a person sees them and is caused alarm or distress this is an offence S.66 under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 and they could end up on the Sex Offenders Register.

What does off route even mean? None of our deliveries or collections have a specified route for getting to/from the start/finish. I could quite easily argue that since I live in the same town as the DO the route I use goes past my house and I am therefore not off route

if u need the toilet or a place to rest/eat then return to d/o inform ur manager that this will be the case in future unless of course they have named places for ur toilet break and a place for u to eat on ur delivery route

No.
"Meal breaks must be taken ..... away from the work station ...." - so how can this be "in the depot" when there's no canteen, no rest room, no chairs or table even ?

Exactly,we are rural, cycle and van duties, no rest facilities, should we take our meal break on the bike /van in the rain,snow, minus 15, if we live in the area why can't we pop home,

Thats one thing they can't enforce.

The requirements are:
the break must be in one block
it cannot be taken off one end of the working day - it must be somewhere in the middle
you are allowed to spend it away from the place on your employer's premises where you work
your employer can say when the break must be taken, as long as it meets these conditions
