AN alert Gourock householder and a postman thwarted two conmen trying to steal a parcel.

Police are now warning the public to watch out for suspicious activity.

Officers say two black males with English accents were involved in a fraudulent scheme attempting to intercept a package being delivered to an address in the Trumpethill area of Gourock by Royal Mail on Tuesday afternoon. The men were accompanied by two children.

Thanks to vigilant action from the postman and the householder, they failed. The incident is being investigated by Royal Mail.

Sergeant Ian Wood urged residents to report any suspicious activity so officers can check it out.

He said: “If the people are genuine no harm is done. You could be preventing a crime.”

He added: “Take care of any personal details including bank details, ensure any personal information being disposed of is shredded or confidentially disposed of. Do not pass these details on to anyone without first confirming their identity. By taking simple steps you can avoid becoming a victim of crime.”

i always make them open the door if they are outside before handing anything over ..o few get a bit miffed ..but hey ho
