It’s all systems go today as the first letter was processed at the new Medway mail centre in Rochester, Kent.

This state-of-the-art site will handle 3.2 million items a night posted to and from addresses in the CT, DA, ME and TN postcode areas.

The Medway mail centre will be our flagship facility in Kent once mail processing work transfers from Canterbury, Dartford, Maidstone and Tonbridge mail centres during this year.

It is a key part of the £70 million we’re investing in Kent to ensure we have an operational network fit for the future.

We have to close mail centres because we are handling fewer mail items. There has been a 20% decline in the last five years.

The new centre provides better working conditions for our people and enables us to deliver a high level of service to customers.

Modernising operations
Keith Tomlinson, Medway mail centre manager, says: ‘Today is a key milestone in modernising our operations across Kent and ensuring we have the most efficient and effective network for sorting and delivering mail for the future.

‘We anticipate the Medway mail centre will be fully operational by the autumn. I would like to thank all those who have worked so hard to make this happen, and who are continuing to work hard to help our staff through these changes.’
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
