i re applied to angard to be a casual flexible resource at preston MC status online says haired start date agreed waited over a week nothing so rung angard and put through to someone who could not really tell me anything apart from i need an id card she couldnt tell me when i was going to get it or when someone would ring me do anyone know whats going on

Unfortunately that is a normal/standard/typical response from Angard. In fact I would not expect anything else apart from "Who are you - we have not got any information about you"

Hi I applied for the casual flexible resource role and had a interview back in November now, have received my I'd badge and just want to know what happens next, will I get an induction day or anything or anymore information about when I start? Thanks. Sam

If its anything similar to the process that was used for the christmas casuals then when you are needed for work you will be contacted by Angard and given your start date and time. Then when you turn up for your shift you will be given an induction which lasts at most about an hour , after which you will be put to work.

Ok, would they ever offer me full time work though? Like the longer im there what would the chances be or does everyone at royal mail not have set hours or time? Thanks Richard

A casual flexible resource is just that. You get texted (then expected to call their 0845 number) or called by Angard on an as needed basis. There is usually no set pattern to when/if you will get called. You are expected to be able to go in at the drop of a hat. Planning does not appear to be a strong point at the mail centre I work at and therefore Angard cannot usually say when you are needed until a few hours (if your lucky) before they want you in. I have been called in by Angard up to an hour after the mail centre wanted me to start. The only time I tend to know when I will be working for a set period is Christmas.

Just backing Verging up on this. Don't treat RM Casual employment as a "job" as such. Work is very patchy to say the least. ALWAYS have your phone on you Angard won't leave a message if you don't answer. You will be expected to move at the drop of a hat so don't make any plans to go out!

Is it worth it? Yes if your the sort of person that just treats the RM money as extra and can be flexible. 9 to 5 it isn't and don't expect to drive a Ferrari after a year. If your on JSA all I can say is that its better than shelf stacking at TESCO's

I will also back up what Verging & Mark have said, but would add that stacking shelves at Tesco does have a better record when it comes to pay day!

As the others have said , dont count on it being anything other than what it is , as an as needed casual basis.

When I started my xmas work it was 8 hours a day 6 days a week from nov 7th up until december 23rd , after that date all but 20 people were dropped from the 3 shifts of xmas casuals they had ( we were all at a temp sorting facility handling all the amazon parcels ) and the 20 they kept were asked to do another 10 days work at the main swansea office.
After the 10 days they let 15 of them go and kept 5 of us on as an as needed basis. 1st few weeks we were in 5 days a week ( on the night shift ) then it dropped to 3 days a week , then it was 2 days a week and they dropped another 2 of us.

I was starting to think that as the 3 of us that were there had all done over 12 weeks and were just getting the better rate of pay from angard that it may turn into something more permanent even if it was just 1 or 2 days a week. Sadly though after doing a 12 hour shift on the Monday before valentines and 8 hours the next day we all stopped getting called in.

The 3 of us really enjoyed the work and even if it was just 2 days a week we were getting much better money than job seekers so we were happy with it.

So anyway , dont count on it ever turning into something other than a way to raise a little extra money to enjoy yourself with.
