ROYAL Mail are shutting their delivery office in Shotts – and moving staff to their base in Wishaw.
However, no jobs are being lost in the move as all the staff are moving from Shottskirk Road to Canyon Road on Monday, March 5.
However, there have also been some changes made to delivery routes in Shotts and these begin from this week.
It means some people in the town may get their mail delivered either earlier or later depending where they live on the altered routes, but Royal Mail could not be more specific.
Royal Mail collections and delivery sector manager, Stephen Nugent, said: “We are proud of the high regard in which our postmen and women are held in Shotts.
“The changes to delivery routes will mean that a member of our local and experienced team will still be delivering to our customers in Shotts.
“The local delivery team and I are fully committed to providing a high quality of service which is as reliable and friendly as customers have come to expect from Royal Mail in Shotts over many years.”
Royal Mail are increasing the number of vans covering Shotts from three to nine.
Postmen and women will have new lightweight trollies to help them get about with the mail, and the part-time staff should have their hours increased, while one extra part-time worker will be recruited.
The delivery office which serves customers in the ML7 postcode area is currently located at Shottskirk Road in Shotts but from Monday, March 5, it will relocate to the Wishaw delivery office in Canyon Road.
Alan Gairns, director for collection and delivery in Scotland, said: “The premises at Wishaw provide a modern and spacious environment with improved facilities for customers and employees.
“Our customers will benefit from extended collection times at both Shotts Post Office branch and Wishaw Delivery Office.
“This move is part of a wider investment for Royal Mail services in Lanarkshire and is part of our continuous drive to deliver great service to customers.”
The change will mean that customers in Shotts will now be able to pick up parcels and packets on occasions when a “while you were out” card has been left by the postman at Shotts Post Office branch, which is directly next door to the current delivery office.
Any items requiring a signature such as special delivery, recorded signed for and Royal Mail tracked items will have to be collected at Wishaw Delivery Office.
However, you can arrange for the item to be redelivered to your address or possibly another address nearby.
The changes mean Wishaw delivery office will serve an additional 7105 business and residential customers in the ML7 postcode area.
Royal Mail will carry out a major information campaign across the ML7 postcode area to inform all business and residential customers of the changes.
In addition, every customer will receive a leaflet through their door on the week commencing February 6 explaining the changes and setting out the opening times of the new office.

Re: Royal Mail announces changes for people in Shotts
Heard this one was coming before I left, I used to be in Wishaw. Don't mind saying it now I've left, not that I made any secret of who I was. But it's about 20 minutes away, at least they've made some provision that packets can be picked up at the post office rather than all having to go to Wishaw. Imagine it wouldn't be easy to get to by bus for customers from Shotts tho

Alex Neil MSP urges Post Office to keep Shotts delivery office open
http://local.stv.tv/airdrie/news/28030- ... fice-open/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The Airdrie and Shotts MSP believes services will be affected by the closure of Shotts delivery office.
Alex Neil MSP has hit out at postal chiefs after they announced plans to close Shotts delivery office.
Last week, Post Office bosses announced that the Shottskirk Road office would close as staff merge with existing workers at a new state of the art facility in Wishaw.
However, the Airdrie and Shotts MSP says that the closure will impact on local services and has asked bosses to clarify how workers will be affected.
He said: "It is disappointing that the Royal Mail have decided to close Shotts Delivery Office. It is the latest in a line of service cuts to our postal services over the past few years and I know my constituents are concerns about what will be next.
“I have written to the head of the Royal Mail Scotland to ask for him to reconsider this decision and ask what provisions are in place for worker relocation and the future plans for services in the area.”
As part of the move to Wishaw, postal workers will continue to deliver in the morning and for a longer period during the day, meaning many customers will continue to get their mail by lunchtime.
However, some customers may be left waiting as delivery times will largely depend on where they live on the new delivery route.
Alan Gairns, Director Collection & Delivery for Scotland, said that despite this, overall services will improve.
He said: “The premises at Wishaw provide a modern and spacious environment with improved facilities for customers and employees.
“Our customers will benefit from extended collection times at both Shotts Post Office branch and Wishaw Delivery Office.
“This move is part of a wider investment for Royal Mail services in Lanarkshire and is part of our continuous drive to deliver great service to customers.”
Royal Mail’s Collections and Delivery Sector Manager, Stephen Nugent added that the changes to the delivery routes are necessary as a result of fewer letters being posted.
He said: “We are proud of the high regard in which our postmen and women are held in Shotts. The changes to delivery routes will mean that a member of our local and experienced team will still be delivering to our customers in Shotts.”
“The local delivery team and I are fully committed to providing a high quality of service that is as reliable and friendly as customers have come to expect from Royal Mail in Shotts over many years.”

Re: Royal Mail announces changes for people in Shotts
Looks like Wishaw is going through their revision at the same time as the merge with Shotts. Seen some posties out on different duties today, some with trolleys some without. So I'm guessing there's some sort of revision going on there.

Re: Royal Mail announces changes for people in Shotts
What about the residents and business in Harthill that get there deliveries from Shotts.Which is about Five miles away. Now its too relocate too Wishaw which is increased too eleven miles. Not thoughtful thinking regarding the residents from there, especially pensioners etc...
No wonder the part time staff will increase,as the travelling time will be increased, thats if they can make to there deliveries travelling from Wishaw too Harthill, especially theold Benhar road which is a hazard[many road accidents] even without the snow.

If it wasn't for the ML postcode Bathgate D.O. would be better off covering Harthill since they already cover Blackridge.Whitburn and Fauldhouse.

Bang on mate,as Bathgate in whitehill is mucher closer, but Harthill is under lanarkshire wherby Bathgate is under lothian.I grew up in Harthill, even at that time it was forgotten about by the lanarkshire council,so there is nothing new there really.

Re: Royal Mail announces changes for people in Shotts
Was actually surprised to see they brought the revision in in Wishaw at the same time as Shotts settling into the office. But i got the letter through from Stevie Nugent today, so must be all going through at same time.
